Reporters Cammi Granato *** Rich Storm
the Ghost! Friday 1/12/01 Berserk scored 2 goals last week that were left out of the Duffer News. The game attendance was 1. Wendy only read 30 pages of Sex in the City while the game was on. It must have been an exciting game. 30 years ago, we never thought the Duffer Logo would give us celebrity status, but that is what happened to Beak and Frank last Tuesday when they walked into the Peoria Civic center. They were welcomed by the Rivermen president, the coaches and players. The Voice of the Rivermen, Norm Ulrich, issued them a Duffer News press pass. Coach Granato called and thanked Beak and Frank for coming down, because Coach Jason really gets pumped up when the Duffers come to town. The Rivermen over came a 2 goal deficit to win 3-2, keeping the Duffer winning streak alive. Madison Road Trip Duffers will meet at 12:00 noon at Berserk’s house for Breakfast
at Wendy’s before leaving for Madison! We will see Kevin Granato
and the Badgers battle Denver on Saturday night. We will return home
in time for the Hawks-Avalanche game, if we don’t run out of gas.
It only takes one goal to win a game, but The Peoria Rivermen found itself trailing 2-0 after two periods in Toledo on Sunday night. The Storm were 17-0-0 when leading after two periods. But the Rivermen were not to be denied and got the rally started early when Trevor Wasyluk knocked in his own rebound shot for the first Rivermen goal, just 58 seconds into the period. Bret Meyers would tie the game 3:33 into the final period getting the puck past Mark Bernard. Then less than a half minute later Darren Clark would score his team-high 13th goal of the season and Peoria had its' first lead, 3-4 with 16 minutes left in the game. Peoria was then tested, killing off three separate powerplays, two of which were five on three. That seemed to charge the Rivermen who would get an insurance goal when Joe Rybar scored on the empty net with 1:13 left. The Storm would get one back with just two seconds left on the clock, but it was to no avail as the Rivermen had their 2nd straight win over Toledo and only third in the eight games played season to date. The win for Kenric Exner, was his 14th of the season and was Peoria's 4th straight, pulling the Rivermen to within a point of ECHL leading South Carolina, who was idle tonight. The Rivermen will now get a breif break with only one game next week- a big one with Trenton on Friday night in Peoria. The Titans have Peoria's exact record at 24-9-3 but host Richmond on Tuesday before coming to Peoria. The Rivermen and Titans are tied for the Northern Conference Lead, trailing South Carolina (24-8-4) by a point.
The Worcester Ice Cats Win Franchise-High Ninth Straight at Home 'Cats Unbeaten in Last Ten at Worcester's Centrum Centre WORCESTER, MA – It was the battle of the top two teams in the AHL last night, as the Worcester IceCats defeated the first place Providence Bruins in a dramatic 4-3 overtime win. The victory was the IceCats ninth straight at Worcester's Centrum Centre. The IceCats now have a League-high 21 wins and are second in the AHL behind Providence with 46 points. The B's who earned a point by going to overtime, have 47 points. |
This is the cup that all of the players in the ECHL were fighting for all year. Frank got to hold it thanks to his Duffer News Press Pass. |
