Two More For Brinks!
Friday 12/29/00

Little Bobby, who is as big as his granddad Frank, led the charge for the Blues as he took a face off win from his uncle Mike (Rich Storm) and blasted it past Brian.  Bob later sailed a pass to his uncle Mike who tipped it in.  Those 2 goals provided the margin of victory for the Blues.  Rob, a guest of Tweedy scored 2 goals, but he is 3 years too young to be meaningful.  Tommy Z had 1 to make the final Blues 5, Whites 3.  Brinks Granato beat Tweedy twice to give the Brian and the Whites a 2-0 meaningful win.  Johnny Z had one for the Whites.

30 years ago, we never thought we would be playing in front of such a large crowd.  Last week, 7 people fought the snow storm and packed the stands to watch our game and not one of them brought a book.  Wendy took care of the Beavis Dog.
30 years ago, meaningful Duffers like the King , Frank and Beak were Tommy Z’s age or younger.  They rented some ice at the brand new Icearena in Downers Grove, borrowed some of their kid's equipment and the Duffers Hockey team was born.  We found out that we all had one thing in common.  We all love to laugh, and our antics, on and off of the ice have given us plenty of things to laugh about.  (Super Dave is working on a 30 year Logo)

Madison Road Trip

We have 6 Duffers that have made the down payment on the Madison road trip!  We plan to leave Saturday, January 13th and return on Sunday afternoon.  We have enough to fill the Berserk van. We are working on filling Uncle Bob’s van now.  $20 saves you a seat.  Committed Duffers include: Klinger, Knarf, Rich Storm, Hacksaw, Tommy Z, Berserk and Beak.

Beer-Nuts goes to Arkansas

Could it be that Beer-Nuts has replaced Alien as the Rivermen Jinx? Read on:
The Peoria Rivermen closed out it's December road trip in a disappointing performance in Little Rock, losing to the Arkansas Riverblades, 4-1.
For the first time in seven games Peoria defeated the pesky Toledo Storm in regulation. All it took was a hat trick by Joe Rybar and some great saves from goaltender Kenric Exner, playing in his third straight game in less than 72 hours. Rybar notched the game winner with just 1:29 left, bringing the 5,487 faithful to their feet. Darren Clark would get an empty net goal in the final minute to seal Peoria’s 21st victory and first in five games. Rybar opened the game with his 6th goal of the season just 1:22 into the first period. Toledo would score two goals to close out the first period with a 2-1 lead. The Storm wouldn’t get their first shot on net until just over eight minutes remained and scored on their 2nd shot attempt of the game. Their 3rd shot attempt also counted when Andrew Williamson got one past Exner with 2:52 left in the first. Peoria’s JF Boutin tied the game just 2:46 into the middle period and that was all of the scoring through 40 minutes. Jason Norrie regained the lead for the Storm just 2:54 into the final period but Rybar came through again, tying the game at 3 with his 2nd of the night and 7th of the season with 9:38 left. Robert Thorpe regained the Storm advantage just 44 seconds later and then Jason Lawmaster tied the game just 1:23 later setting up for the Rybar game winner. Peoria’s win improves the team’s mark to 21-9-3 with a pair of games against Louisiana in Carver Arena next on the schedule. The IceGators, riding a 3-game win streak will be in Peoria on Thursday and Friday before the Rivermen head to Toledo for game eight in their 11-game season series.
