Attendance 20  Report by Rich Storm

The Anvil went color coordinated on the Duffers Friday. With a scheme to match his white beard, pads, and skates, he decided to put on a white jersey for the first and last time in a long while.  The change of colors didn't help his recent winless streak as the Brain won both the meaningful and meaningless games. The Reds got off to an early lead with goals by Hitman (2), and Miniweez. Somebody must have pointed out to Miniweez, that he never gets to run Eddie, since they wear the same color every week.  So, in order to begin evening the score, he charged hard, but Eddie has seen this all too often from the other end. The Anvil stepped aside as the Assman slid out of control into the net. leaving The Anvil untouched.  Later in the 3rd period, John Fisher added another goal to put the game completely out of reach for the Whites. And depending on who you talk to, the Brain had a shutout until the last few minutes of the game after giving one up on a break-away. For the third week in a row, a Duffer Minor has had the opportunity of skating on a Friday with his dad and the Duffers. John Bobka would like to thank Beak, Kenny, Tweedy, Crybaby, Buckshot, Beavis, Doc, Alien, By The Way Bill, The Flea, Peoria Art, Super Dave, The Nailer, Berzerk, and Magoo for not bothering to show up and letting him play. But after skating on the same

team with his Dad, it may be the last time he'll want to skate for awhile!

Issue 399 or is it 400?

The number on the Zamboni below is quickly approaching 400!  Ten years ago, Beak cranked out Volume I, Issue 1 of the Duffer News.  (For the rest of the story, go to Page 2)

The first issue of the modern Duffer News* hit the locker rooms in April 1994. The 4 page issue was dedicated to the adventures of our first team trip to Hayward.  The title was written in Greek letters.  There was a one page missal called the Hayward Gazette that came out the week before, so if we count that as the first Duffer News, then the issue you are now reading is the 400th!  That issue is posted on line at:
http://www.lopatka.net/hayward94/index.html
The Duffer News started out as a multi page monthly journal. In September of 1995 it became a weekly newsletter. That first issue featured the following stories: "Duffers Near Silver Anniversary Season", "Duffers Win Road Game", "Hat Trick for Mazurk", "2 Minutes for looking Cross Eyed at the Referee", I Can Drive, I Didn't Eat Anything", "Top Ten Reasons Not to Go to Hayward" and "Revenge of the Wheezer". Here is an except from that Inaugural Issue. "Penalty Killing Specialists" .....Tweedy said, . "Koss got 2 minutes for looking cross eyed at the ref." We scored a short handed goal, and one of their players asked to decline the next penalty. Harvey and Wheezer killed off a minute and a half of that penalty. They demonstrated the ultimate in stay at home defense. No matter how many plays the Muskies tried, the two specialist refused to chase. They then turned it over to Ken and Tom Morgan, who went on to score a couple of conventional goals, and a wrap-around. We finished them off with Tweedy upstairs in the Beer Contest and our 163 year old line of Harvey, Beak, and Giffune. One of their players said, "We are loosing to our Fathers." "Stump Was On Fire" The Only thing the young Muskies couldn't do was beat Stump. *There was a series of pre-computer Duffer News issues in the early 80s that were published at Pawnee Motors.
