February 2, 2001 Reporters Cammi Granato *** Rich Storm

Frank's Stealth Goal Sinks the Stumper!
Friday 1/26/01
After the trip to Peoria,  Beak could remember what happened Saturday, Peoria won a squeaker, 2-1, keeping the Duffer winning streak alive. Doc, Mark Beer-nuts and Beak had a great time, thanks to the hospitality of Rivermen Coach Jason Christie. The Rivermen lost Tuesday night to the Storm. No Duffers were there, so our winning streak is still alive. When Beak tried to remember what happened Friday night, He drew a blank.  He did remember that Frank won the game on the first shift, when he fired a shot from the Blue line that somehow found it's way past Stump for the meaningful winner.  Brian make a great save on Brinks to preserve the 1-0 win at the final buzzer.  Mini-Wheezer took a pass from Koss and scored his first Duffer goal.
( Do I need to tell you that Koss was not on Mini's team?)
Beak e-mailed the Duffer News reporter, Rich Storm, and asked for help.  The following e-mail was his reply:
"I remember as much of the game as you, but I do know the Blues showed up at Henry's and drank more beer than the Whites."
Blue Team Beer drinkers:
Rich Storm, Beak, Frank, Klinger, Tommy Z, Johnny Z,
Mini-Wheezer.
White Team Beer drinkers:
Thor, The King, Koss, Stump.

Welcome to Ed Bangs!  bangz@galenalink.net

Ed Bangs called last week.  Ed is a former Duffer, who is now playing with some former Iowa Duffers in Dubuque.  You meaningful Duffers will remember the infamous line of Beak-Bangs-Titz.
Ed's team is begging him to set up a game with us.  They want us to come to Dubuque and they will even travel to Peoria.  I told them it is hard to get more than 7 guys to go on short trips like Peoria and Madison, but I would try to see how many Duffers would like to return Iowa.
Email me with your choice. beak@lopatka.net
Remember Morgan's most memorable moment happened when the bars closed in East Dubuque. That is  also where the three legged dog chased Alien in circles. If the Alien had run in a figure 8, the 3 legged would have fallen over.
That is also the place that Beak, Hacksaw and Thor took a Tribune truck to East Dubuque and Boris declared his Illinois citizenship in the Police station at 4:00 AM.
3 years ago (January 29, 1998, at 2:00 PM) the Duffers skated onto the ice in the Shark Tank.
2 years ago (January 22, 1999) we partied at Midway airport until the fog lifted.  We arrived in Columbus just in time to see The Chill down the Chiefs 4-2.
San Jose!!!
We will leave early on Saturday March 10, so we can watch the Sharks play that night. We plan to return home on Tuesday, March 13.  Twenty two Duffers have indicated that they would go.  We all know that money talks and we will need a $275 deposit by February 9 to buy your ticket at a reduced rate.  Right now we are looking at $276 for a round trip non stop to San Franscisco.  Last week a flight to San Jose was $218 prices are jumping. The following the Duffers have indicated that they will go to San Jose:
(If your name does not appear, let Beak know as soon as possible.)
Going
Beak, Beavis, Beernuts, Brinks, Doc, Hacksaw, Joe Granato, King, Klinger, Knarf, Larry, Magoo, Wheezer
Maybes
Dill, Fruit cake, Stump, Thor, Harvey, Tommy Z and Uncle Bob
Will meet us there
Veto*, Emil Lody* and Brian Kraft*

Here is a hint for you first timers, save your money, sick days and be nice to your lady. Show the web pages from our 1998 San Jose trip.

Christmas Party

Berserk has graciously volunteered to host the Duffer Festivas party in February in his new house.

 The Peoria Rivermen

Head Coach Jason Christie announced Monday afternoon that winger Shawn Mamane and defensemen Jason Lawmaster would return from AHL Affiliate Worcester tonight. Mamane, a 6’, 190 lb. Rookie from Montreal played in 18 games for the Rivermen before being recalled by Worcester. In his first 18 games with the Rivermen, Mamane had nine goals and five assists, and was named ECHL player of the week for the period between November 6 and 12. Since being recalled to Worcester, he has played in 24 games, scoring two goals and four assists. Lawmaster, a 6’2”, 200 lb. Defensemen/winger from Westland, Michigan is in his 2nd professional season and was named to last year’s ECHL Northern Conference All-Star team. Prior to his first call-up of the season, Jason had played in 34 games for the Rivermen, scoring eight goals and nine assists. In seven games with Worcester, Lawmaster has
scored three goals and four assists. Both Mamane and Lawmaster have been integral parts of Worcester’s rise to first place in the AHL, the top NHL prospect league. The IceCats currently lead the AHL by four points over 2nd place Kentucky. In tonight’s game the Peoria Rivermen host the 2nd place Toledo Storm. It’s the ninth of 11 regular season meetings between these two division rivals. The Rivermen have an overall record of 29-13-3 against the Storm. The Rivermen have a lifetime home record of 17-5-0 against Dayton and an 12-8-3 lifetime road record. After losing the first three games of the series,
the Rivermen have gone 3-1-1 in the last five of the series. Six of the eight games have been decided by a single goal and the two games decided by two goals both ended with empty net scores. Peoria and Toledo will meet twice in February (6th and 17th) and then will play the final six weeks of the regular season without ever seeing each other. 23 of Peoria’s 42 games have been decided by just a single goal, nine have been decided by two goals and eight  have been decided by three goals, which includes two empty net goals. Kenric Exner is 8th among the ECHL’s top Goaltenders with a GAA of 2.71.

More Madison Madness
Only 2 more home week ends for the Badgers. February 16 and March 2.

I posted the following pictures to get us in the mood for some road trips.  Papa sent me a disturbing e-mail this week.  He said, "Been there, done that, my road trips are over." Say it ain't so, Papa.  You have built up a lot of "points" with your wife by going straight home on Friday nights, it is time to cash them in.

Wheezer laces up for an outdoor game.  A long bus ride and not enough urnals.

Half way to the North Pole.
 The Mini-Bus.

Flannel shirts, it must be Hayward.
Ahh!  That's the real thing!

 The Hayward Hot tub.
Look at the profile on Papa!  He could have been named the Beak if that name wasn't taken.

The King hits his head in Green Bay.  See, you don't need jokes to make you laugh.
The King sleeps in Hayward.
Tommy sipped the Captain Morgan.
He doesn't look too good here.

30 Years of Laughter!

It's not over till it's over!
