The Dark Horsehead Nebula

Explanation: While drifting through the cosmos, sculpted by stellar winds and radiation, this
magnificent interstellar dust cloud has chanced to assume a recognizable shape. Fittingly named The Horsehead Nebula it is embedded in the immense complex of star forming gas and dust surrounding the Orion Nebula some 1,500 light-years distant. The dark nebula is cataloged as Barnard 33 and is visible only because its obscuring dust is silhouetted against the bright emission nebulae which lie behind it. In fact, the prominent horse head portion of the nebula is really just part of a larger cloud of dust which can be seen extending off the bottom of the picture. A potentially rewarding but difficult object to view with a small instrument, this gorgeous color image is a composite of exposures made with a digital camera and astronomical BVR filters using a 1-meter diameter telescope.

February 9, 2001 Reporters Cammi Granato *** Rich Storm

Hitman Hammers the Stumper!
Friday 2/2/01
Hitman was the clean up hitter last week.  He poked in a Tweedy rebound for his first goal, then he fired a Beak rebound past Stump to give the Whites a 2-0 meaningful lead.  The unstoppable line of Storm, Magoo and Alien put the game away with an Alien goal that beat the second period buzzer by 1 second.  Beavis and Johnny Z scored meaningless goals for the Blues to make the game interesting.  Tweedy made the meaningless final 4-2 when his dad and Hitman set him up.
San Jose!!!
Ken Lopatka has jumped on the San Jose Express!  Agi, a life long fan of Doug Wilson would love to go to San Jose more than anyone, made the supreme sacrifice.  She told Ken to go and she’ll stay home and watch the kids.
Peoria Duffer, Emil Ludy, sent his check in for San Jose.  Emil is 60 years old but plays too good to be meaningful.
We will  leave Saturday March 10, at 9:55 so we can watch the Sharks play that night. We plan to return home on Tuesday March 13 at 7:00.  We will need a $275 deposit by February 9 to buy your ticket at a reduced rate.  The group rate is $285.40
Going
Beak, Beer nuts, Brinks, Doc, Hacksaw, Joe Granato, Ken, The King, Klinger, Knarf, Larry, Magoo, Thor, Stump, Wheezer, Zagnut and Emil Lody

Christmas Party

Chris Mazurk has just purchased a big red barn so that we can have our Duffer Christmas party.  Festivities will begin after 7:00 on Saturday February 24, 2001.  The barn is located on  Deer Run Road.
E-mail Beak with your intentions and directions. beak@lopatka.net
You can call Berserk, his number has not changed.

Welcome to Ed Bangs!  bangz@galenalink.net

Ed Bangs called last week.  Ed is a former Duffer, who is now playing with some former Iowa Duffers in Dubuque.  You meaningful Duffers will remember the infamous line of Beak-Bangs-Titz.
Ed's team is begging him to set up a game with us.  They want us to come to Dubuque and they will even travel to Peoria.  I told them it is hard to get more than 7 guys to go on short trips like Peoria and Madison, but I would try to see how many Duffers would like to return Iowa.
Email me with your choice. beak@lopatka.net
Remember Morgan's most memorable moment happened when the bars closed in East Dubuque. That is  also where the three legged dog chased Alien in circles. If the Alien had run in a figure 8, the 3 legged would have fallen over.
That is also the place that Beak, Hacksaw and Thor took a Tribune truck to East Dubuque and Boris declared his Illinois citizenship in the Police station at 4:00 AM.
3 years ago (January 29, 1998, at 2:00 PM) the Duffers skated onto the ice in the Shark Tank.
2 years ago (January 22, 1999) we partied at Midway airport until the fog lifted.  We arrived in Columbus just in time to see The Chill down the Chiefs 4-2.

 The Peoria Rivermen

Peoria fell to the Greenboro Generals for the first time in two seasons on Sunday afternoon, a 2-1 final in a shootout. After a scoreless first period former   Rivermen Kevin Paden scored with just 52 seconds left in the 2nd period. JF Boutin tied the game 4:11 into the final period. Peoria outshot the Generals  by a commanding 36-22 margin during regulation but couldn't get one past Trevor Prior in the overtime. Curtis Sanford would stop three of the five General  shootout attempts, while Bret Meyers was the only Rivermen to score in the shootout. Peoria falls to 27-13-6, and has now lost four straight. Peoria needs a Duffer visit to stop the skid.
