Duffer News! Ryan Dzingel was traded to Columbus. He should be happy back in his college town.
Click here to keep up with Jack Kroll in Brooklyn NY. Brian Kraft and his daughter, Amber, came in from Alaska to play with the Duffers on February 15, 2019. Amber became the fist Daughter of a Duffer to score a goal when she tied the game with 19 seconds left to play. I went to lunch at the Vault in Lemont and got a surprise birthday party on Wednesday. Harvey brought me a bottle of champagne and our wonderful waitress Karen baked me a tray of brownies. What a delightful afternoon. If you feel bad about missing my party, we will do it again at Wild Wings after the game. |
This was my first celebration of 79 trips around the Sun. Karen wrote, "You all mean the world to me! And getting the Daytona 500 program from the King himself was so thoughtful and kind! You guys leave me with such a smile every time!" |
Thursday night, I went to Watch Ed Waghorne and the Wags Play. |
Tweedy and Tommy Z helped them to a 7-6 win. |
Before the game, my grandson Mike gave me 3 Dove bars to start the party. Mike and I shared many Dove bars when he was little. |
Greg Z gave me a set of Wacky Packs. Last week we were talking about the popular stickers from the 1970s. |
Friday night, Dana had a beer waiting for me when I arrived. |
Lennie was able to stay up late, but his sister had a big game in the morning. |
|
|
V-Man, Jay and Joe showed up to party with Beak. |
|
I rested on Saturday by watching my great granddaughter win a state playoff game at the Blackhawk MB Ice Rink. |
|
Sunday I celebrated with my family at Portillo's. I didn't get to blow out the candles because nobody had a match! |
Tweedy and his family were unable to attend because kids were busy with softball and baseball. I'll party with them next Sunday. |
The best cards are made by kids. |
Carmela and Lennie created these beauties. |
Beak presents the puck to the first granddaughter of a Duffer to score a goal. (Left to Right) Beak, Amber Kraft, Brian Kraft, Geno, Monet Mike and Grandpa Ken |
I labeled the puck that Rick Dzingel scored his first Duffer goal. |
I wanted to present it to Rick, but he was a out of action. |
Amber started her day with a tour of the Blackhawk locker room and she ended it by playing a Duffer game and becoming the first granddaughter of a Duffer to score a goal. | |
Beak took a shot to his belly to get an assist. |
|
38 Duffers and friends were treated to a Blackhawk Practice |
We were able to watch the Ottawa Senators practice too. |
Beak's grandson got to go on the ice with Ryan Dzingel |
Coach Mark Crawford put Luke through some drills |
Some of us went to see the Hawk game and we saw the Cat score a hat trick. Ryan had over a 100 fans there to greet him after the game. |
|
These 3 guys totaled 4 goals. Beak and Rick had 0 goals. |

This made me think of the great sausage that I had at 2 in the morning in Toronto with the Duffers in 2006. "Klinger got hungry and found an immigrant Russian cooking hot dogs and sausages on the street corner. Thor talked the guy into a package deal, getting 5 four dollar sausages for $19.85. While Thor was paying the guy, all of the sausages were taken by 5 hungry Duffers." Toronto 2006, Page 2, Page 3, Page 4, Page 5, Page 6 |
The Duffers Had a great Road Trip to St. Louis! 5 players never played again.
Only 5 of these guys were able to play on Friday after the Road trip. 5 of these guys have never played another Duffer game. |
37 years ago, 18 Duffers took a train to Lake Placid to play in the rink where the Miracle on ice gave USA a gold Medal in 1980. History Repeated when the Duffers took a Train Road Trip to St Louis

To The Duffer Family,
E-Mail from Steve's Brother Joe
I hope you all enjoy the road trip; I really wish we could have been
there with you. I got to play hockey with my brother on basement floors
on our hands and knees (using socks and hands as sticks) driveways,
streets, then golf course ponds, rivers, frozen backyards, and flooded
parks and tennis courts for 14 years before we went indoors with the
Duffers, with Papa Joe and you all; the locker room was always the place
for the family. Saturday night hockey games on WGN were epic for us.
Pizza rolls and popcorn and cokes. Then to the basement for sock hockey
on the floor between periods. I got goalie pads and a mask for
Christmas. Used little league glove for my mitt. Steve always went for
the head and the 5-hole on me. Most times he scored. Steve was a faculty
advisor for the Naperville North HS hockey team from 1989 (as I
remember) until 2013. The support he received in 1993 and 1994 led to

Remember when we always had 15 -20 guys at Wild Wings? Some guys are turning into Fred, it was great to see Brett and Jeff show up. Thanksgiving Cartoons
We miss you Thor! (We miss Basketball Jones and Magoo too)
We miss these guys too. Papa Joe played his last game when he was 83, Joe Jr. has been missing this season while caring for his brother Steve who lost his battle with brain cancer on January 12, 2019. |

He gave us more laughs than any other Duffer. He was born on May 20, 1935. My son Dan was born on his birthday in 1970. We shared a lot of Muzzy pictures in the last Newsletter.
This was 1997 when we brought up Robby Granato to give the Bombers 2 Illinois ringers. We filled most of the coach seats and avoided a fun tax. This is the year that Muzzy shocked Hayward church goers when he came out of the church and boarded the bus with toilet paper streaming out of his pants. Read More....
