Duffer Distancing News!

Since we haven't been playing, I have had nothing to post. I have had a few wellness calls since I have been on e-mail silence. My wife and I have dodged the virus so far by wearing our masks and keeping our distance. I did have successful Carpal tunnel surgery a few months ago. I have been enjoying watching my granddaughter Audrey's softball games and a few of Luke's baseball games. I have taken Bill "Klinger" Giffune to some of the games. Last week we had a 55 minute ride to Elgin so I brought a photo album for Klinger to view. Those pictures triggered many memories. Here is one for you.

There were all kinds of Duffer memories in that photo album and one was about a Duffer picnic that had a softball memory tied to it. Years ago, we had a guy that came out and wanted to play with the Duffers and when he told the King his name was Joe, the King told him we have too many guys named Joe so you can play but we will call you Floyd. He laughed and came out and played a game or two and decided that he might want to become a Duffer. He asked Timmy what he had to do to join the Duffers. Tim told him the King had to sleep with his wife. Floyd was appalled and the next week he came to hockey telling us that he was getting a divorce and he had no wife for the King.  A Floyd  memory came up that had us laughing when we talked about the Duffer Picnic softball game. Floyd was not born in America and didn't know baseball rules. He came to bat and hit a ball to the right-center field gap he got excited and ran toward third base where I was coaching so I shoved him toward first base so he ran across the pitcher's mound and got to first base just before the throw came in. I came to bat and got a base hit sending Floyd to second, then Brinks hit a bases-clearing double. I was running behind Floyd to try to score but Floyd stopped at home  and stood on the plate as I came running home just as the throw came flying in, I pushed him out of the way and scored.  That is all for today I hope everybody is doing well!

I will be adding Duffer memorable memories from time to time and I welcome contributions from all Duffers.

Here are a few of the pictures that I scanned  from that photo album.

These 4 pictures were taken in Marathon Florida when we visited Wally in 2000.

Take some time to visit the pages of the Duffers who left us

I found that making a page honoring my friends helped me deal with pain when I made one for my dear friend Rich Dzingel who left us before he was 50.
