Rivermen SWEEP

care of the Chiefs, the Duffer Blues downed the Whites 1-0 on a Meaningful goal by Hitman. The Blues also won the meaningless contest with a pair of goals by Doc.  This is all that I can remember, so I sent out an e-mail plea for help, but nobody remembered anything.   There was one Duffer record breaking event, Papa Joe's number 2 son, Steve, set a record by showing up 20 minutes later than the Alien! His excuse was not a good one, He claims his wife went shopping at 7 O'Clock. All Duffer wives know that Friday night is not for shopping. We expect a better excuse from a high school teacher! Steve, Ask your students to give you a better excuse. There has been a shortage of good excuses. Road trips have been missed for the lamest reasons.

Retirement

Frank is enjoying retirement, he came back from a month in Florida just in time to catch a Rivermen playoff game.  Hacksaw isn't so lucky, his wife has him painting and wallpapering.  That's how Hitler got his rotten disposition..

The Rivermen sweep could set up a Peoria road trip this week end.  Check with Beak for the latest on a possible road trip.  We are waiting to see what the Rivermen schedule is.  They have to work around arena football.

Rivermen Drown the Chiefs!
Rivermen Sweep Series !

The Peoria Rivermen continue to roll on in the post season, winning their 6th straight on Friday night in a 2-1 victory over Johnstown. That win gave Peoria a 3-game sweep over the physical Chiefs, who had upset NE Division Champion Roanoke, 3 games to 1. In that series Chief goaltender Frederic Deschenes posted two shutouts. On Friday night in Johnstown over 50 Rivermen fans arrived in hopes of a sweep and were thrilled when ECHL playoff goal scoring leader J.F. Boutin knocked in the first score with just 2:59 left in the opening period. The Rivermen would dominate the first 40 minutes of the game, taking a 2-0 advantage just 4:53 into the 2nd period on a Jason Lawmaster deflection of a Dan Hodge shot. Peoria outshot the Chiefs by a 17-13 margin in the first two periods and seemed in complete control of the game heading into the final period. The Chiefs cut the lead in half when Carl Fleury scored on a shot taken over the fallen Dan Hodge, who had lay on the ice for nearly a half minute in agony with no whistle blown to stop the play. That goal came at the 7:32 mark of the final period and woke up the crowd and the Chiefs. Johnstown would outshoot Peoria, 16-8 in the final period but failed to score as Derksen turned all but one away. He has considerable help from his team mates, especially Darren Maloney and Dan Hodge, who time and time again knocked quality shot attempts away before they reached Derksen. The win places the Rivermen into the Northern Conference Finals against either Hampton Roads or Trenton. That series is tied with the deciding game this Monday at the practice rink of the Hampton Roads Admirals as their home facility is already booked. Trenton won 6-3 on Saturday night to even the series. The Conference final will be a best-of-7 series, Peoria's first since joining the ECHL. Southern Semis Set

The final member of the Southern Conference Semi-finals was decided on Wednesday night when Augusta, the 10th seed in the post season eliminated the ECHL's Brabham Cup Winner Florida, 4-2. Augusta will meet the new Southern Conference top seed- Greenville in the semis with South Carolina meeting SW Division Champion Louisiana. This leaves only Peoria and Louisiana as the remaining division champions.
