Klinger Gets Ball at Sox Game!
Baseball takes over! The last day of the season started at Wrigley field and finished at Sox park, where Klinger wrestled a foul ball away from Sox fans and he never spilled a drop of his $4.50 beer. Many years ago Klinger back peddled into deep center field at a Duffer picnic 16 inch softball game and snatched the fly ball with his right hand while clutching his free beer with his left hand. This legendary feat has never been topped. |
The last hockey game of the season featured a pair of goals by
Uncle Bob. Just as Rich Storm predicted in his season finale preview.
Mike Devivo fluttered the Meaningful winner past Stump. Hacksaw and
Magoo scored for the Whites and Fruitcake and Papa scored for the Blues.
Stump was the #1 Star of the game as he made one unbelievable save after
another. Shades of Hayward 1994 when Stump stopped a team of players
that were half our age. To read
about that game, click here to go to the Way Back Machine.

Advantage: RIVERMEN The Peoria Rivermen swept their 3-game road series in Lafayette on Sunday night shocking the 7,000+ faithful in a 6-5 double overtime win. Peoria had blown a commanding 5-1 lead in the final period and were forced into overtime with just 2:49 left on the hosts 4th goal in just 13:10. In the first overtime Duane Derksen came up big with 13 saves. But it all ended just 2:26 into the 2nd overtime when Trevor Baker netted the game winner over goaltender Dave Arsenault for the 6-5 win. The pivotal win in this 5th game sends the series back to Peoria with the Rivermen ahead 3 games to 2. Peoria just needs one win to capture the franchises first ever ECHL Kelly Cup. Louisiana would need to win game 6 on Wednesday forcing game 7 on Thursday to capture their first cup. On Sunday night the Rivermen took the early lead at 7:12 of the opening period on a Joe Rybar goal. At 14:57 the IceGators would tie the game ending the first period with the teams deadlocked at 1. Jason Deleurme put Peoria back on top at 7:17 and was followed just 4:37 later by a goal from J.F. Boutin. With just 4:17 left in the 2nd period, Trevor Baker scored what was his first of two goals on the night and Peoria headed into the break with a 4-1 advantage. Joe Rybar made it a 5-1 lead, the biggest any team had held in the series, just 2:48 into the final frame. When the IceGators finally got on the board at 4:01 the crowd and the home team woke up and took advantage of some sloppy plays and no calls to score 4 unanswered sending the game into the extra session. Peoria's Duane Derksen picks up another playoff win, with 51 saves as the Rivermen get outshot, 56-48. Peoria stopped all 3 IceGator powerplay chances and failed on all 6 of their own. |
