The Downers Grove Duffer Hockey team jumped into 1st place in the Spring Men's League Thursday , June 2, by downing the Broncos in a 9-8 come from behind victory at the Downers Grove Icearena.  Both teams were tied for first place with a 4-1 record.

Duffers 7-5 in the Season opener, but lost to the Blues last week.

together in the Illinois Junior Hockey League.

The Duffers started the kid line, but the Broncos scored twice in

the first two minutes to take a 2-0 lead.  Tony Granato cut the lead in half with an unassisted goal with 6:53 left to play in the first period.
The Broncos scored 4 straight goals to take a 7-3 lead.  The Duffers leaned back and turned there sons loose. The SODs scored 3 short handed goals to take a 9-7 lead. The Duffers held on for the 9-8  victory.
That win was the 5th straight for the Duffers, who now lead the league with a 5-1 record.

DG Duffers Chalk up 6th Straight Victory

The Downers Grove Duffer Hockey team recorded its 6th straight victory June 9, as they defeated the Blues 6-3
The Duffers, who have added their sons to the lineup, kept the youths on the bench at the game's beginning,. The surprising strategy worked as the old timer line scored first on a Bob Morgan Ice hugging slap shot.
The lead didn't last too long, as the Duffers were short handed most of the 1st period. The Blues scored 3 power play goals to take a 3-1 lead.
The Duffer sons had to use their

skills killing penalties. It wasn't until the final minutes of the period, that Donny Granato was able to get the Duffers back into the game with a short handed goal.
The penalties didn't let up, as the Duffers found themselves short handed most of the 2nd period.  only the superb goal tending of Tom (Slime dog) Kowalkowski kept the Duffers in the game.
The Blues kept the pressure on with 2 break-a-ways,but they came up empty handed.
The Duffers finally sprung Tony Granato loose as he worked a give and go with Gene (Thor)

Miller to knot the score at 3.  Donny Granato gave the Duffers the lead, 2 minutes later  on a slap shot, set up by Wally Kraft.
Tony Granato scored an unassisted goal minutes later to give the Duffers a little breathing room. Ken Lopatka added an insurance goal late in the game to give the Duffers a 6-3 win and an undisputed hold on first place.
