Bobka Beats the Buzzer, as Thor and Fruitcake Hammer the Anvil!
Friday 2/16/01
Eddie The Anvil helped Thor score in the first period when he helped funnel a wide shot into the net.  That goal looked like the game winner for the home team until Beer nuts spoiled Gary the Ghost's shut out with 3 minutes left to play in the game.  It looked  like we were headed for another tie, when Stump and Johnny Z gave their final shift to Tweedy and nephew Jeff,  They worked the puck into the attacking zone as the crowd counted down the final seconds, Fruit Cake raced in from the blue line and fired a shot at the Anvil with 2 seconds left in the game.  Eddie made the save then poked it into his own net with 1.2 seconds left in the game.
The Anvil is now on suicide watch.  The Ghost picked up a pair of wins.  2-1 meaningful and 6-3 Meaningless.

 The Peoria Rivermen

The Johnstown Chiefs won for only their second time ever at Carver Arena on Sunday afternoon after forcing the game into overtime. The Chiefs tied the game with 1:39 left on a goal by Jim Shepherd, his 10th of the season. In the overtime, Jim Leger shot the puck, which appeared to be initially stopped by Goaltender Kenric Exner but then the 4,901 on hand, watched in horror as the puck fell over the line and into the net- Chiefs win, 3-2. Peoria had tied the game in the 2nd period on a JF Boutin powerplay goal, his 16th goal of the season, with 9:33 left. Tyler Willis scored his 8th of the season just 4:33 into the final period and it appeared that the Rivermen would run their current winning streak to four straight. Peoria outplayed the Chiefs, winning the shots battle, 41-24 but the shorthanded Rivermen fell for only the 2nd time in five years to Johnstown at Carver Arena. Peoria and Johnstown will meet again this Tuesday as the Rivermen continue on their eight-game home stand. Then Peoria will play three games in three days over the weekend, hosting Jackson on Friday and Birmingham on Saturday and Sunday. The loss drops Peoria’s record to 30-14-8, with 68 points and would place Peoria at best in 2nd place in the NW Division, pending the outcome of Sunday’s Dayton and Toledo bout.
More News: Tuesday, February 20, 2001 Mr. Kyle Petty will NOT be appearing!
