-20 Wind Chill!

Weather Report
The Duffers were again forced to have their post game beers outside in sub zero Celsius temperatures thanks to a threatening e-mail from the rink manager.  Only this week, only the hardiest Duffers enjoyed a cold one, because high winds chased most of the guys to Wild Wings for their first beer.  That turned out to be a good thing, since we set a new record when 21 Duffers showed up for a wild wing party. We even had 2 ladies, former Duffer referee, Agi showed up and a Special Ed. Teacher, Amy showed up to help The Flea do the Statue of Liberty.  (She started his finger on fire, so that he could celebrate his new USA citizenship)

3 of the Hardy Boys

The game was a thriller that changed leads several times.  The Whites jumped off to a 5-1 lead, when Fruitcake scored the first goal of the game.  The Bobka factor didn't help Fred, since the square of one is only one,  (Had he scored the 11th goal, it would have counted for 121!)  The Reds came back in the second period with 6 unanswered goals to take a 7-5 lead after 2 periods.  The Whites woke up and stormed back to tie the game at 10-10 in the closing minutes.  It looked like a shoot out was in order, but in the last minute of play, Brinks made a nice move and tucked the winner in.  With 21 goals, I can't name all of the goal scorers, but the meaningful game was 2-1, with Brinks and Fruitcake scoring for the Whites and Magoo getting the lone Red goal.  Thanks to digital images, I can name the guys that made it to Wild Wings.  Uncle Bob, Super Dave, Rich Storm,  Tommy Z, Thor, Tweedy, Beak, Mini Wheezer, Bill By the Way, The Flea, Basket ball Jones, Hacksaw, Koss, Knarf, Special Ed, Art and AJ.  We even had both goalies show up!  Usually one goes home and licks his wounds.  They had 21 pucks blow by them and The Anvil and The Brain still showed up to party!  That is the Duffer Way.  The King would be proud.  Our new recruit, Tom O'Connor showed up and stayed till closing time. Other Red goals were scored by JLO (Jeff Lopatka (3),  TZ (3), Uncle Bob, Mini Wheezer and Rich Storm (2) White goals, Art (3) Tweedy (3) Special Ed (3) BBTW

   Bill Gaston, on our outdoor beer drinking;

Hi Greg-- Yes, thank you kindly, I got your check yesterday. But, much more important, that's a disaster of epic proportions, to be cut off from the sanctity of dressing room beer. What's the world coming to when upstanding citizens, consenting adults all, are forced out into the cold to sip their hard-won beer? It sounds pretty Soviet to me. But I envy you the experience of a Dall Sheep steak. cheers, Bill
The Anvil's son, Nick won the State Hockey title.

(Brian Kraft promised to cook me a Dall Sheep Steak if I made it to Anchorage Alaska after my GLOBE workshop in Fairbanks)  I made reservations for a 5 hour flight there with stops in Barrow and Deadhorse.

Stump put on the Muffs.

Bloomington Road Trip

Team Bloomington will meet at the Cracker Barrel on Weber Road and I-55 at 9:00 A.M. for a 9:30 departure.  We have 3 goalies and 15 skaters. (Art and Emil will fill out the lines with Peoria Duffers) 21 people have indicated that they will need tickets to the Prairie Thunder game at 7:00 P.M.  Please click here to see the list of participants.  If you want to go and your name is not on the list, please e-mail me ASAP, especially if you will need a ticket.  If your name is on the list and your plans have changed, please let me know even sooner.  You can leave your car behind the restaurant and car pool.  I have only 3 requests for overnights and a couple of "I'll let you Knows", so I have not made any arrangements.  I'm sorry to say that I'll be in Fairbanks Alaska on that day, so you are on your own.

SOD* wins State

Thanks to Mini Wheezer for the following report:

A big hand should go out to The Anvils son Nick, his Huskie team won state last night.

With Stump and Me in attendance, Nick's team fell behind on a tip in goal in the first
But 1/2 way through the second Nick, looked like he was at Duffers when he had the puck
behind the net, worked himself free and sent a DUFFERS FLUTTER towards the net from a horrible angle......the young goalie didn't know how to react as it rolled slowly under his trapper and just over the goal line.........The game was pretty intense and late in the third after 3 rebounds Nick jumped on a loose puck in the slot and buried it........(lucky for him he was not at Duffers Friday to see Uncle Bob shoot).
Congrats to Nick, and his very proud family

*Duffer SODS (Son Of a Duffer) have a history of winning State.  In 1980, Tweedy and Piggy Bank won the Squirt State title, with Brinks as their coach.  That same year, Beak Junior won the Junior B Hockey State title with Beak as the assistant coach.  Tweedy and Rob went on to win Pee Wee and Bantam crowns in the following few years.  I'm sure Donny, Brian Kraft and Tony had a few titles too, but I don't have the years.  I'm pretty sure Tony's Junior A team won State in 1980.  Nick has a few State Crowns from his younger days.

Woke early one morning,
the earth lay cool and still,
when suddenly a tiny bird,
perched on my window sill,
it sang a song so lovely,
so carefree and so gay,
that slowly all my troubles,
began to slip away,
it sang of far off places,
of laughter and of fun,
it seemed his very song,
brought out the morning sun,
I pulled back the covers,
and crept slowly out of bed,
and gently shut the window,
and crushed his freakin' head,
I'm not a morning person
