GLOBE Hydrology
Naperville Community Unit School District 203
October 11, 2007
Ms. Kouri took her 4th and 5th graders to the west branch of the DuPage River. Ms. Kouri and some volunteer parents took part of the group to net some macro invertebrates, while Mr. Lopatka and a volunteer parent helped the students measure temperature, conductivity, PH, dissolved oxygen and turbidity. They also found the latitude, longitude and altitude of the Highlands Hydrology study site. The students tested for nitrates and phosphates too. When they returned to the school, they compared and averaged the data and then shared it with GLOBE students, teachers and scientists around the world, by entering it into the GLOBE Data Base. |

We got a water sample with a nice toss of the bucket. |
We started testing the water sample. |
The Temperature was 13 degrees Celsius. |
The Turbidity was very good, we could see through 80 cm of water. |
On October 5th, Mrs. Kouri took her students to Pioneer Park to study the water there. I had to miss that trip, because I was on my way home from the Seasons and Biomes Workshop in Fairbanks, Alaska.
