Duffers Get Religion

Romeoville, IL 06/13/2008
Attendance 24

Friday The Thirteenth!
We had a nice turn out for a summer game, thanks to some guests. (Father Bill Murray, was a little nervous when he was given Conti's #13 sweater to wear) We also had a goalie overload.  Stump was desperate at noon, because the goalie that Tweedy had promised, backed out and The Anvil and The Brain became anglers and headed for all of the new lake front property in the flooded areas.  A Goalie emergency was declared!  We have never been short a goalie since Stump was named "Duffer Goalie in Chief" many years ago.  Tweedy called Beak and had him pick up his goalie equipment, then Beak called Brinks and asked if Rob would play goalie with Tweedy's Pads.  Brinks said Rob wouldn't be there, so he made a call and got his cousin's nephew Jason.  At the same time,

The Duffer in chief with his new assistant.

"The Bookie" made a few calls and came up with 2 goalies.  At game time we had 4 goalies and 5 sets of goalie pads!  Dave (one of the Bookie's Goalies) and Stump skated out and Tweedy's pads stayed in the car.  We had a good game with the lead changing several times.  The Whites jumped out to an early lead with 2 Art goals (One bounced off of Klinger) and Brinks tipped one past his cousin's nephew.  "TO" Tom O'Connor flipped a beautiful back hander into the top shelf to make it 3-1.  Johnny Z took a break out pass from Harvey and headed off for a  break away.  He hit the goalie's glove, then the post, then into the net to make it 3-2.  Johnny scored again on a low shot through the crowd to tie the game.  The Maestro (Bill Conti) tapped in an open net goal to give the Reds a 4-3 lead.  Brinks scored again to tie it at 4-4 with 2 more periods left to play.  The Reds took the lead early in the second period with a tap in by "TO".  Several minutes later, Dave (the Bookie Goalie) extended the Red lead to 6-4 with a goal.  Rich Storm made it 6-5 with a beautiful goal that surprised Jason.  Brinks tied it with his Hat trick, and Art picked up the game winner when he scored his 3rd goal.  Father Bill was robbed of his first Duffer goal with a slick glove save by Jason.  Someone said that Father let the "S" word fly, but that was unconfirmed.  He could be a Duffer, he liked our motto, "A Drinking Team with a Hockey Problem".
Meaningless score (m) Whites 7, Reds 6;  Meaningful Score (M) Whites 3-2

Road Trip!
The Duffers have been going on even year road trips.  02-04-06-08.  A road trip for 09 was discussed at the picnic meeting.  We are accepting offers now. Leading candidates are Huston, Phoenix and Denver.  Las Vegas is never far behind.

Art tells Frank about his Hat trick as Frank takes a quick nap.
