On Wednesday, we went to Milwaukee to watch the Cubs beat the Brewers in 11 innings. We had lunch at the Brat Stop, free beers at the Miller Brewery and a pre-game snack at Maders.

I picked my lovely sisters up at Mom's house.  They spent a few days cleaning up Mom's house.

Matt Clement was dominant with 13 strike outs in 7 innings.  He didn't get the win because the bull pen blew the lead again.  Mercker pitches to 2 guys and gets the win.

Here is the written account of the game.

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Dusty Baker has been able to count on Corey Patterson throughout the season -- even on a night when the Chicago Cubs outfielder isn't feeling 100 percent.

``He's been great,'' Baker said. ``His hamstring was bothering him tonight and he was having a hard time pushing off, but he toughed it out and helped us get a big win.''

After the Cubs blew a two-run lead, Patterson came through again with a two-run homer in 11th inning to lead Chicago to a 7-5 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday night.

Patterson, who has 16 home runs and 52 RBIs, said he was just trying to figure out Brewers pitcher Travis Phelps, who was making his first major league appearance for the team.

``I've never faced him before so I took a couple of pitches to see what he was throwing,'' said Patterson, who also had a single, double and scored three runs. ``I was just trying to put the ball in play and luckily it got out of the park.''

The win came after Baker held a team meeting before the game. The Cubs lost 3-1 to the Brewers on Tuesday night and were only 4-7 in their last 11 games coming into Wednesday. He said he hoped the dramatic win would be a catalyst for the team to go on a winning streak as it battles for a wild-card spot.

``It starts with one,'' Baker said. ``We've got to go out and win the series tomorrow and get some momentum.''

Kent Mercker (3-0) threw two-thirds of an inning for the victory, and LaTroy Hawkins pitched the 11th for his 18th save. Matt Clement pitched seven strong innings and tied a career high with 13 strikeouts, but lost a chance for the win when Branyon homered off Mike Remlinger in the eighth.

In all, five Cubs pitchers had 16 strikeouts.

Phelps (0-1), called up from Triple-A Indianapolis after Tuesday night's game, got two quick outs in the 11th. Then, he walked Ramon Martinez and Patterson sent a 2-2 pitch over the wall in right to give the Cubs the lead.

``A two-out walk -- they made me pay for it,'' Phelps said. ``It was the wrong pitch to the wrong guy at the wrong time. You can't do that up here or you're going to get hurt. It was a rough start.''

Brewers manager Ned Yost agreed that the two-out walk was ``the killer.''

``You can't take off your belt and spank them,'' he said. ``A two-out walk like that will beat you. We just have to keep preaching to them.''

Russell Branyon hit two home runs and had five RBIs for the Brewers, including a two-run homer in the eighth to tie it at 5-5.

``We got all of our offense from one guy, Russell Branyon,'' Yost said. ``But 16 strikeouts is just too much and we just didn't put the ball in play with men in scoring position.''

Clement, who has only one win in his last 13 starts, overpowered the Brewers by striking out the side in the fourth and fifth innings -- and struck out 10 of 12 batters he faced during one stretch. The last time Clement struck out 13 was April 25 against the New York Mets.

``I was throwing the ball better than I ever have,'' Clement said. ``I am just glad that we able to come back and get the win. It would have been very tough to lose that game.''

Brewers starter Ben Sheets was also solid, striking out eight in seven innings. But he hasn't won since July 10, when he beat Cincinnati 5-0. He's had four losses and three no-decisions since.

Nomar Garciaparra hit three doubles and Derrek Lee also homered and drove in two runs for the Cubs, who won for the second time in six games.

The Cubs took a 1-0 lead in the first on Lee's 25th homer.

Chicago made it 3-0 in the third inning. Following a single and stolen base by Patterson, Garciaparra drove him in with a double. Moises Alou followed with a single to drive in Garciaparra. Alou went to third when the ball got by left fielder Geoff Jenkins for a two-base error.

The error was Jenkins' first since June 4, 2002, a span of 249 games and 451 total chances.

``It took a weird hop,'' Jenkins said. ``It had weird balls tonight. It was just a funky night.''

The Brewers tied it in the third on Branyon's three-run homer, but the Cubs grabbed took back the lead in the fifth when Garciaparra hit his third double of the game to drive in Patterson.

The Cubs increased the lead to 5-3 in the seventh inning on Lee's sacrifice fly that scored Michael Barrett.

Notes

Cubs slugger Sammy Sosa hit in the No. 5 spot in the order, the first time since Dusty Baker became manager of the Cubs. He went 0-for-5. ... Scott Podsednik's two stolen bases gave him 45 for the season, a career high.
