The Red Bears Break the Brain's Streak!

The Brain hasn't lost a meaningless game since September 19.  It took an old Duffer to help break the string as Berserk solved him for a pair of goals.  It was great seeing him again, because the laugh meter went over the top at Wild Wings.  How many beers do you need until you agree to having your finger set on fire?  The first period ended in a 1-1 tie with goals by Jeff and TZ.  The Brain's confidence was shattered when Fruitcake broke the tie with a little poke through the 5 hole.  That made it 4 to 1 using the Bobka Factor (2 squared is 4).  The Blushing Bears went on a scoring spree after that to made the score 7-2 after two periods.

Berserk laughs when he is asked to set his finger on fire

The Anvil came up with some great stops, especially on Jeff.  Brinks managed to tie the Meaningful score with a second period buzzer beater.  Red goals in the 2nd period were scored by Berserk (2), TZ, TO, Special Ed and the Maestro.  A few weeks ago, Mini Wheezer was quoted  saying that "The worst lead in Duffers hockey is 5 goals."  That proved to be true again in the third period, as the Polar Bears quickly cut the lead to 7-5 with goals by Jeff, Geno and Tipsy Terry.  Terry tied Bill BTW on the "Terry, Fall-O- Meter" with an assisted fall in the third period.  Bill had an unassisted Terry like spill on an early shift.  Mini Wheezer finally got the monkey off of his back in the closing minute, when he managed to put the game out of reach with a long over due goal.  We expect to see him go on a scoring streak like Jonathan Toews did.  The game was perked up when Tim Smith's wife came in with her 4 kids and their grandmothers.  That increased the size of our crowd 7 times.  Jeff's friend was the only spectator till they came in.  Klinger was a no show after watching several game in a row.  We haven't had a crowd that big since Tommy Z's office crew showed up one night many years ago.  The turn out at Wild Wings was better than average, so we had to add several tables.  When Stump came in, Eddie and Berserk put a high chair at the end of the table for him.  Special Ed and The Anvil talked Berserk into starting his finger on fire and doing the Statue of Liberty.  Chris said it wasn't as painless as promised.  There were 2 Meaningful goals  for each team.  Brinks, Geno, TO and Fruitcake.  See 2008 Stats Page.

Chris sent the following:

That could be my last game ever! I'm not sure how I go to play hockey and someone lights my finger on fire! It was great to see you all again, and once again, am reminded how much fun the duffers are.

Braille Goaltending

The following is a reprint from a 1978 Duffer Newsletter:

Did you ever hit Stump with a screen shot and hear his reply when you yell, "You never saw it!" He laughs and says, "I didn't have to, you hit me!"
Here is a reprint from a pre computer, 1978 Duffer News, when Stump was a twig.
Dear Duffer Advisor,
I hear rumors that Stump and Slime Dog are going to open up a goalie school using the Braille Method of goaltending. Please tell me, what in the world is Braille Goaltending?
Dilated Duffer
Dear Dilated,
The Braille method of goaltending was named after Louis Braille (1852) teacher of the blind. Braille goaltending was developed exclusively by Slime Dog and Stump under very controlled conditions. Normally, vision is a very important part of goaltending. Duffer goalies have had to adapt, because Duffer defensemen always back their 4 foot high rear ends into the 4 foot high goalies. thus removing all of the advantages of vision. Their nasal passages are also rendered inoperative, so all they have left is hearing, touch and taste. They listen for the slap of wood against rubber, flinch and wait for the feel or taste of the puck. Once this happens, they must react quickly to try to grab the rebound before one of those lecherous forwards bangs it in. Braille goaltending usually fails after 3 rebounds.
