Brinks Bags a Pair!

The Vancouver Canuck's Scout Liked What He Saw!
We had a fast paced game once the guys realized that a scout for the Vancouver Canucks was watching intently.  Beak even back checked once or twice.  V-Man poked one past the Brain  to give the Reds an early lead.  That surprised everyone since the Whites were loaded with talent.  They were so loaded that they had Dimples Zagorski playing defense  The Reds had Klinger, Fruit Cake and the Czar protecting the Reds' blue line.  Thor blew a slap shot past Eddie The Anvil.

All Star Dan

He one timed a pass from Dimples.  Magoo beat the Brain with a quick wrist shot that he never saw.  Magoo never saw it either, because he can't see.  Kevin Rench tied the game with a break a way goal.  Geno answered that with a flip shot into the top corner, to give the Reds a 2-1 Meaningful lead and a 3-2 Meaningless lead, but Rench struck again to tie it at three.  The Czar, A.K.A. Rich Storm Presecki, gave the Reds the lead again when he rushed up the ice for a high light reel goal.  Beak, who was covering back for Mike told him, "It's a good thing you scored because I'm not good at stopping a 2 on 1." .  Brinks Granato tied it  for the Whites and later got the game winner to make the final Meaningless score 5-4 and the Meaningful score was Whites 3, Reds 2.  Brinks should have had a Hat trick, but a quick whistle that never blew negated his goal. (Our referee was in Nashville)

NYPDs are Aging!

While checking the Duffer History, I was reminded of the time that we added some New Young Polite Duffers (NYPDs) at the start of the 1994 season.  The 4 new Duffers were right out of college then. One month later we developed the meaningful scoring system that evolved into the one we use today.  The addition of those guys pulled our average age down to 40.  Those NYPDs are now 40!  Only 2 NYPDs, Dimples and Tweedy, active today.  We lost Mini Wheezer's cousin to marriage and last year we lost Back Hand Johnny Z to disinterest.

Dave Hanson Wants to skate with us in Pittsburgh!
You remember him, he was a star in the 1977 movie, Slap Shot.  Dave's son plays for the Toronto Maple Leafs.  Dave runs the Robert Morris Ice Rinks in Pittsburgh and gave us a great deal on our Friday Morning ice.  He offered us Outdoor ice on Saturday, but Tony is trying to get us ice at their Practice Rink.  The Igloo has
Celtic Woman in

concert on Saturday. Want to go?

MLF Game has been changed to April 2nd.

Dave Hanson wants to skate with us

Pittsburgh Update

  • In less than 2 months, We leave for Pittsburgh on March 17, 2011 at 8:30 AM. I have made arrangements with the Yorktown Shopping center Security Department for us to leave cars at the closed Bamboo Room Restaurant. (Just North of Penny's)
  • Tony called to tell me he got us a great rate on ice at the Robert Morris Rink near our Cambria Downtown Suites for Friday morning. The guy that runs the rink is Dave Hanson, one of the Hansen Brothers from the movie Slap Shot. Dave asked Tony if he could skate with us. Tony would like to play with us too, as does the scout from the Vancouver Canucks.  Tony says Dave is a great guy and will not put on the foil and goon it up unless we ask nice.
  • I'm looking at having a team lunch at the Rivers Casino after our Friday game. They are offering $5 food ticket and $15 to play in the slot machines. If you have a gambling or Casino Food problem, We can have you dropped back at the Cambria.
  • Saturday ice is tough to get. Dave offered us 7:00 AM indoors or outdoor (With a roof) later in the day. The guys that I talked to on Friday were not thrilled about outdoor ice or 7:00 AM ice. The Penguins have a practice at the Isoplex, 20 miles out of town on Saturday, They can't get ice in the Igloo because Celtic Woman has a concert there that day. I was trying to get us ice at the Isoplex, when Tony called and said that he would have his Penguin guy try to get us ice there at a much better rate.
  • We may have picked up our second goalie. (My brother Herb's 18 year old grandson, Dan Smith, is the starting Goalie on his high school team and has committed to be our goalie.  This is Dan's first year playing goalie and he made the Metro North High School All Star team.  I hired Herb to be our photographer and Video expert) Eddie The Anvil said that things are falling in place at work and he would love to go on the trip as long as we are not flying. He will do 120 mph on a Harley, but he won't fly. Eddie will be happy to know that Elton John is coming to Pittsburgh for a concert at the Igloo just when we are leaving town.
  • I'm starting to make an itinerary for each person that will have cell phone numbers of all of our participants. Please send me your number as soon as you can.
  • Thanks to those who have paid in full, I now have enough to send Lamers Bus a check and sign the contract. Please send me what you can by February 1st and the balance no later than March 1st.

I'm asking Perry to bring his Chiefs' jersey to Pittsburgh, just to make Dave Hanson feel at ease with the Duffers.

The Reds lost the Wild Wings contest too as only 3 Red players showed.  Beak kept his Wild Wing perfect attendance record clean, but he will not be there on March 18, when he will be in Pittsburgh.

Dan Smith, Our 18 year goalie was named to the Metro North All Star team.  That is incredible since he just started playing goalie last summer!  He can't wait to get Dufferized.
