Leonard “Kuba” Pawlowski Basketball, Class of 1956 Presenter: Paul Szczurek ‘56 To receive the award for Leonard Pawlowski: Carol Pawlowski (Leonard’s
Wife), Chris (Daughter) and Michael (Son) Leonard “Kuba” was an outstanding player on the Junior basketball team and provided many thrilling moments. He was a member of the basketball team for four years, was awarded a major monogram his sophomore, junior and senior years and was co-captain and All City in his senior year. Leonard was well liked by everyone at Holy Trinity High School. The Holy Trinity Yearbook said the following about Leonard: Len “Served as a shining example of what a “little man” can accomplish with spirit and determination.” Len joined the Marine Corps right after high school. After the Marine Corps, Leonard attended Triton College and received an Associate Degree in Horticulture and became a certified Arborist. He married Carol in 1961. Leonard and Carol raised two children, Chris 44 (husband is Michael) and Michael 40 (wife is Kathy). Len and Carol were blessed with three grandchildren, grandson Bryan age 25 and twins Michael age 9 and Alexa age 9. Len worked for the City of Chicago for 38 years in the Forestry Department and retired at age 61 as the Assistant General Superintendent. Len was active in the St. Francis Borgia Holy Name Society and the St. Marcelline’s St. Vincent DePaul Society. In addition, he was the precinct captain of the 32nd Ward for over 35 years. Len suffered a heart attack and died in 2001.

Joseph Nee Basketball, Class of 1970
Presenter: Bill Nee (Brother of Joseph Nee)
Joseph was an All-Star basketball player. He was on the Lights (Junior) basketball team his freshman year and was on the Heavies (Senior) basketball team his sophomore, junior and senior years. As a starter, he was a major letter winner all four years. He was captain his senior year, MVP of the Lights team his freshman year and MVP of the Heavies team his sophomore, junior and senior years. Joe received numerous honors and awards including: *Tied for high scorer in Catholic League North Section Heavies Basketball his junior year * High scorer in Catholic League North Section Heavies Basketball in senior year * Second Team Catholic League North Section in sophomore year * First Team Catholic League North Section in junior and senior years * Honorable Mention All-State in junior and senior years * Catholic League All-Star Team in junior and senior years * Athlete of the year in his senior year * Brother Maximus Award (created by Brother Tom Henning) for the athlete who was the Best Athlete in school for four consecutive years He was the first person at Holy Trinity to receive the award. Joseph received several basketball scholarships, including one to Jacksonville College a Division 1 school in Jacksonville, Florida. Joseph chose to attend Wright Junior College and was a starting basketball player. He left Wright after 1 year. Joseph is a Chicago firefighter; he has worked as a Chicago firefighter for 29 years. He is married to Kathleen for 33 years. They have 5 children: Matt 32, Kelly 31, Bridget 29, Joe 22, and Kevin 19. They are the proud grandparents of 5 grandchildren: Patrick 13, Marty 4, CeCe 2, Mickey 1 and Patrick James, just born. They also have 1 more grandchild on the way. Page 3 |
Damien Bracy Basketball, Class of 2002
Presenter: Tim Bopp
Damien was a 4 year member of the boys’ basketball program. He was a starter and major letter winner for 3 years and co-captain his senior year. He led the Holy Trinity team to back to back Regional Titles in 2001 and 2002 with a combined record of 44-16. He scored over 1,000 points and garnered over 1,000 rebounds in his career. He was the main cog who helped the program get a high degree of respect and a great reputation. With his quick hands and fleet feet, he was able to play against much taller players with a high rate of success.
Damien received numerous honors and awards including: * First Team All-Conference - Chicago Prep Conference his sophomore, junior and senior years * Most Outstanding Player of the Chicago Prep Conference his junior year * He led the league in rebounding his junior year * Fourth Team All-State - Illinois Basketball Coaches Association his junior year * Special mention - Chicago Tribune All-State (only player honored from Class A school) his junior year * All Tournament - Luther North Christmas Tournament his senior year * First Team Illinois Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Game and leading scorer (22 points) in the game his senior year * Athlete of the Year at Holy Trinity High School 2002 Damien attended Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri for 1 year and studied Computer Science. He is single, lives in Chicago and has a son Kyan 2. Damien is a Class A CDL Driver with Coca-Cola Enterprises.Page 4 |
Gregory “Greg” Lopatka Henry Brandt Distinguished Alumni Award Class of 1958 Presenter: Chet Lis ’58 and Daniel (Greg’s son) Greg has been involved in the Alumni Association in many ways and for many years. Since the inception of the Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, he has worked each year with Chet Lis, to create and publish the Athletic Hall of Fame booklet. He has been diligent in attending our various yearly alumni activities . When attending the various alumni activities, he has taken pictures and posted them on a web site that he created for Holy Trinity alumni pictures. The web site is: http://www.lopatka.net/ and click on Holy Trinity. Most recently, Greg took over the leadership role from Chet Lis for the Class of 1958 50th reunion when Chet was hospitalized for numerous months for liver and kidney failure. The class of 1958 was always a close knit class and the 50th reunion was very important event to the class and to the leaders of the reunion. Greg led the reunion committee to locate the Class of 1958 alumni; he and his wife Carole sent out the invitations; he led the reunion committee team to follow up with calls to each member of the Class of 1958; he creatively put together a web site for everything associated with the reunion including pictures, stories, etc. and creatively put together a PowerPoint presentation for the reunion which utilized the class Year Books for 1954 – 1958 to captured pictures, stories, music, etc of the class of 1958 and individual members. Greg was very active in sports at Holy Trinity. He played football and basketball for four years, received major monograms for both sports in his junior and senior years and was football and basketball co-captain in his senior year. He was named to the Catholic League Tribune All-Star Basketball team in his senior year and represented HTHS at the Catholic League All-Star Game in 1958. He also took up tennis and bowling and led the bowling team to first place, edging out Gordon and Weber in his senior year. In tennis, he teamed up with classmate Zenon Forowycz to advance to the Catholic League finals at the Edgewater Beach Hotel. Greg was also Class Secretary in his freshman and Junior years, Sergeant-at-Arms in his sophomore year and Class Vice President in his senior year. After graduation from HTHS, Greg went on to the Chicago Teachers College and was also very active in sports there. He was captain of the basketball team in his sophomore and junior years and starting 3rd baseman, batting .345 in his junior year. Student teaching kept him from playing in his senior year. He received a Bachelor’s Degree from Northeastern Illinois in 1962 and a Master’s Degree from Loyola University in 1967.
Greg married his high school sweetheart, Carole in 1961. They have four children, Ken, Kathie, Debbie and Dan and eight grandchildren ranging in ages from 1 to 24. They also have a 2 year old great granddaughter and a new born grandson. Greg retired from the Chicago Public School system after 39 years of teaching, but he continues to work as a teacher trainer for the Naperville Public Schools and Chicago Public Schools. Greg is also involved with the GLOBE (Global Learning and Observations to benefit the Environment) program and has been sent to many interesting places, including Alaska, to help train new teachers. Greg, a senior citizen, is involved in playing some young person’s sport, namely ice hockey. He plays with a senior citizen team called the Duffers (good thing that they have Medicare). Greg went to Salt Lake City to watch Cammie Granato win the Olympic Silver Medal. Greg was her coach in the 1980s. Pages 5 and 6 |
