Anvil Stops 80 Shots!

Romeoville, IL 11/27/09    The Anvil Drives for Five
Attendance 26

The Anvil's 5th straight win looked pretty good during warm ups, when only 6 players were  wearing White jerseys.  Mike grabbed a White Jersey and told Bill BTW, TZ, Red Hot Dave the former Goalie and a player to be named later to do the same.  (That player turned out to be Harvey) That group put 4 goals past the Anvil to thwart his bid for 5 straight wins.  Hockey is a strange game, the Anvil played his finest game and got tagged with a loss.  The Reds were badly out matched as they spent most of their energy trying to get out of the zone.  T&A wrote that Eddie had a 100 saves in his weekly e-mail account.  Tom A. has a better than average memory on the day after the game than most Duffers and I thank him for that and his reports.

Andy and Dad

The Whites jumped off to an early lead with goals by Dave, Tommy Z and Bill BTW.  The Reds had a hard time getting a shot on from deep in their own zone.  Finally, in the 2nd period, Jimmy "Rags" cranked a slap shot from the Blue Line past the dozing Brain.  Jimmy took over the center spot for an exhausted Big Buff, who was worn out from chasing TZ around in the first period.  Big Buff went over to left wing where he got plenty of rest in periods 2 and 3.  The game had a number of crashes, starting in the first period when Beak had his legs taken out by an out of position team mate.  He landed on his head, so he was all right.  (Better than one of those titanium hips)  Beak was 1 fall ahead of Terry in the Fall Fest, but Terry quickly went on to tie and pass him with 5 assorted falls. (3 assisted and 2 unassisted)  Frank took the worst fall of the night when he hit his head and was dazed for a while and sat out his last 3 shifts.  Fred, Koss and the Maestro had to rotate 3 Defensemen to finish the game.  Before the game, Beak invited Molly the Nurse to join us when he saw there were only 5 guys in the locker room.  She went home and got her equipment and returned early in the first period, but by then we had more than enough players.  Professional medical help would have come in handy to test Frank for a concussion, but since she went home, Beak tossed Frank a beer and he caught it, passing the Duffer concussion test.  Beak scored his 2nd goal in 2 days when he took a pass from Magoo and flipped a back hand pass in front of the net where Fred and Magoo were crashing.  Bill BTW broke that pass up by kicking it past the Brain.  Beak tried to give the goal to Fred to take advantage of the Bobka Factor, but Fred was too honest to take the goal.  Thor and Brinks added Meaningful goals to give the Whites a 2-1 Meaningful lead, but Magoo tied it with a late goal.

Whites 6, Reds 3  Meaningful tie, 2-2

Crashes:
Terry 5, one each for Frank, Beer nuts, Mini-Wheezer, Harvey, me and a few more that I can't remember.  I felt pretty good on Sunday after playing 2 game in 2 days.  I have a pain in my neck after my fall.  Thanks to Fred for helping me up.  Terry promised to teach me how to get up after I fall.  I blocked a clearing pass from Rich Storm with my inner thigh, it left a mark, but it only hurts when I touch it.  I won't touch it.
