The Kid from Gurnee Stones the Reds

Our first summer game brought out a nice crowd.  Thor started things out with a bang when he fell and hit his helmet on the ice during warm ups.  Terry said he was out cold for 4 minutes!  911 was called and paramedics arrived.  They asked him some questions and told him he should take a ride to the hospital.  Thor refused and was back on the ice taking his regular shifts.  Frank brought his skates and tried to skate, but his legs told him that they were not ready yet.  Jim "Rags" Ragland scored first to give the Reds a 1-0 lead that almost held up until the 3rd period, as Dan "The Kid From Gurnee" was in a zone stopping everything that came his way.  Mike "The Czar" spoiled his shut out with a buzzer beater.  With 1 second left in the second period, The Czar fired a pass from behind the goal line that hit Dan's pad and went in as the horn sounded.  Art gave the Whites a 2-1 lead early in the third period, then turned down a chance to score again on a break away, but instead of shooting, He waited for T&A to join him.  Tom took the pass from Art and buried a shot to give the Whites a 2 goal lead.  That goal turned out to be the game  winner when Tommy Z scored late in the game to make the final score, Whites 3, Reds 2.  The Reds pulled their goalie and added a 6th attacker. They pounded Dan with more rubber in the last 60 seconds, but they could not score.  Dan Smith became the youngest goalie in modern history to win a Duffer game.  I'm sure Stump won a Duffer game in prehistoric times, when he was in high school. The Anvil had a fine game in a losing cause.
