April meteor shower set to light up the night sky

One of the five top meteor events of 2013 peaks the night of April 21/22. Although the Lyrid shower doesn't get as much recognition as some summer and autumn showers do, it often puts on a nice display. In a great year, observers can expect to see up to 20 "shooting stars" per hour -- an average of one every three minutes -- at the peak. Unfortunately, conditions won't be ideal this year. An 85-percent-lit Moon will share the sky with this meteor shower until close to dawn. Still, observers will have a narrow window with dark skies. At mid-northern latitudes, the Moon sets around 4 a.m. local daylight time and morning twilight doesn't begin until a half-hour later. Read more.

Brinks is Back with a Bang!

Romeoville, IL
April 12, 2013

Attendance: 20

Rags Celebrates 51 trips around the Sun!
Brinks returned from his fun in the Sun vacation last week and he couldn't buy a goal, but he made up for that this week as he put 3 pucks past the Anvil with assists going to t&a  and Rags.  Brinks returned the favor when he set up Tommy A for a pair of goals, the second one bounced off of Crash Nance's skate.  The Whites got off to an early lead and just kept adding on every time the Reds dented the Brain's net.  Tweedy got the Reds on the board when Nick the Prick set him up with a great pass.

Even Tweedy came out to toast Rags on his 51st birthday.

Tommy Z was playing defense and picked off a number of passes that would have been scoring chances.  TZ must have felt bad for scoring 3 on the Brain last week, so he scored 2 on the Anvil just to demonstrate that he is an equal opportunity goal Duffer.  Thor took a pass from Rags in the second period and blew a slap shot past the rattled Anvil.  My recorder of Deeds, T&A, wanted to give Thor another goal, but I don't remember that.  I usually get chest pains when Thor scores and then I need a beer.  Kevin "Meat" Rench had a nice goal.  When a reporter asked him if he picked number 24 when he became a Duffer because he liked Dough Wilson, He replied, "Wilson had too much hair, I was more like Bob Probert."  Joe "Drago" Evans put the icing on the cake for the Whites when he fired a backhander past the Anvil after doing a spin-a-rama and catching his balance.  The Reds could only put 6 meaningless goals on the board.  Tweedy and Nick each had a pair and Terry and T&A had solo goals.  The closest thing to a meaningful goal was when Tom "TO" O'Conner set up the rapidly graying Tom "T&A" Ambrosia's goal.

Whites 10, Reds 6:   Meaningful Score, Whites 10, Reds 6.

  Memorable Moments:

  • Senior locker room was beerless. (Nobody Picked up the phone!) Beak Mooched one from the Bookie and brought back one for Thor. He also brought back a bottle of Crown Royal to the Senior Locker room
  • Rags got 2 assists on his birthday and partied at Wild Wings.

Anvil picked up the tab, then he sobered up.

* One Trip around the Sun is 93,000,000 times 2 times 3.14= 583,840,000 miles times 51 = 29,786,040,000 That means Rags will be  pushing 30 billion miles soon.

Papa Joe passed 48 Billion a few months ago.

Hawks and Preds in Nashville 6 April 13.

Thanks Greg
Yes I am back on island and they have a very serious boot hockey and roller blade hockey that if I can get in good shape they have a new season starting in September that I may go try out for.
They actually are affiliated with the (CFHA) Caribbean Floor Hockey Association and travel internationally for the World Championships. We have a lot of those darn Canadians here so the level of boot hockey is quite serious.
I will send you a picture for the Duffers News as they have a real indoor Non Ice Rink.
Hope all is well for your family and all of the Duffers.
Looking forward to the Playoffs as I flew home last weekend when the Hawks had the matinee Saturday game with the Nashville Predators. The Sea of Red was rocking and it was a great 1-0 Hawks victory.
I can see a Hawks and Penguins series in the brew

Last week, I had a lot of positive feed back about my list of Yogi and Thor quotes.  I thought you would enjoy some Rooney Wisdom this week.

They're written by Andy Rooney , a man who has the gift of saying so much with so few words. Enjoy.......

I've learned .... That the best classroom in the world is at the feet of an elderly person.
I've learned .... That when you're in love, it shows.
I've learned .... That just one person saying to me, 'You've made my day!' makes my day.
I've learned .... That having a child fall asleep in your arms is one of the most peaceful feelings in the world.
I've learned .... That being kind is more important than being right.
I've learned .... That you should never say no to a gift from a child.
I've learned .... That I can always pray for someone when I don't have the strength to help him in some other way.
I've learned .... That no matter how serious your life requires you to be, everyone needs a friend to act goofy with.
I've learned .... That sometimes all a person needs is a hand to hold and a heart to understand.
I've learned .... That simple walks with my father around the block on summer nights when I was a child did wonders for me as an adult.
I've learned .... That life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer it gets to the end, the faster it goes.
I've learned .... That we should be glad God doesn't give us everything we ask for.
I've learned .... That money doesn't buy class.
I've learned .... That it's those small daily happenings that make life so spectacular.
I've learned .... That under everyone's hard shell is someone who wants to be appreciated and loved.
I've learned .... That to ignore the facts does not change the facts.
I 've learned .... That when you plan to get even with someone, you are only letting that person continue to hurt you.
I've learned .... That love, not time, heals all wounds.
I've learned .... That the easiest way for me to grow as a person is to surround myself with people smarter than I am.
I've learned .... That everyone you meet deserves to be greeted with a smile..
I've learned .... That no one is perfect until you fall in love with them.
I've learned ... That life is tough, but I'm
tougher.
I've learned .... That opportunities are never lost; someone will take the ones you miss.
I've learned .... That when you harbor bitterness, happiness will dock elsewhere.
I've learned .... That I wish I could have told my Mom that I love her one more time before she passed away.
I've learned .... That one should keep his words both soft and tender, because tomorrow he may have to eat them.
I've learned ..... That a smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks.
I've learned ..... That when your newly born grandchild holds your little finger in his little fist, that you're hooked for life.
I've learned .... That everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all the happiness and growth occurs while you're climbing it.
I've learned .... That the less time I have to work with, the more things I get done.
