  1. When did the Duffers have a bowling team? The Duffers entered Businessmen’s Bowling leaguein September 1982  Muzzie shows up with hockey gear. 

  2. Who were the sponsors? The King sponsored us with spiffy white bowling shirts that we wore to Fred's wedding, where Beak got a little spaghetti stain on it. We started every game with a beer frame. A few years later, Mazurk sponsored our Duffer bowling team with Jimmy Buffett Bowling shirts that we could wear to Buffett Concerts. The King was famous for his attire, he wore the hottest looking long underwear and matching top until the Duffer Bears rubbed off.

  3. Who were the bowlers? Thor, King, Stump, Beak, Muzzy, Berserk and Timmy Dubiel.

  1. When did Bill BTW start playing with the Duffers? May 2002

  2. How did he find about us?  Bill's wife read about the Duffers in the Plainfield Sun and suggested that it was just the thing he needed to get back into hockey. Bill read the article and recognized Jim Micelli's name. He called him up and started playing in May 2002.  He got tagged with the handle "By the Way" by Bobka after meeting the Duffers for only 3 minutes. June 26, 2010 Bill By The Way Louis was presented with the Next Generation Duffer Meaningless Trophy, He was the 7th Duffer to receive the prestigious award.  Joe "Face Plant" Evans became the 9th Duffer to receive the Klinger Krash award. Mike "Mini Wheezer" Oskroba became the second Duffer to receive the Tim "Basketball Jones" Smith Perfect Attendance Award.  Read more....

  2. Name the Comet that the Duffers saw in Hayward during their 1996 visit. Comet Hyakutake missed Earth by 9,000,000 miles, so we got a great view of it in the dark skies of Hayward Wisconsin.

  3. Name the Comet that the Duffers saw in Hayward during their 1997 visit. In March of 1997, Comet Hale-Bopp reached perihelion while we were in Hayward. The100th Computerized Duffer newsletter was published as the Duffers won their 2nd straight beer drinking trophy.  A group of  3 Duffers were threatened with jail at 3 AM if they didn’t stop laughing. Newsletter #100

  3. Who was the SOD that coached them? Donny Granato

  4. Name the Duffers that drank from the cup after the game? Beak, Beer nuts, Brinks and Frank drink from the Kelly cup that was won by Don Granato’s Peoria Rivermen. The Three Duffers were presented with game pucks for their support. Player coach Jason Christie was named MVP! a month later, Don Granato is named head coach of the Worcester Ice Cats. We were happy for Don, but we were sorry to lose our Rivermen connection. A week later, the Duffers cheered as Jason Christie is named head coach of the Peoria.

  1. What year did the Duffers play Lacrosse? The Summer of 1980 Who made money from that activity? Bob "The Geek" Screwlander Why did we quit that sport? The bugs that were attracted to smelly protective equipment ate us up. What sport did we try next? Canadian Floor Hockey with sharp sticks and then Basketball.

  2. What year did the Duffers bring home a Silver Medal from Lake Placid? Stump was asked to play goalie in the championship game in Lake Placid in April 1982.  He replaced the Laurentian Old Pucker's injured goalie. 

  3. When did the Duffers beat Hinsdale Central High School? In January of 1983 the Duffers embarrassed the high school hotshots with the help of 8th grader, Tweedy.   Can you name the son of a Black Hawk who played on that team? Dennis Hall's son was a star on that team. Who was the Hinsdale Coach? Geno was their coach and he couldn't find a way to get them to skate when they didn't have the puck. He figured that getting beat buy some old guys might wake them up.  

  4. Who had the number 8 NASCAR car before Dale Earnhardt?  Jim "The King" Miceli was the driver, mechanic and pit crew of the NASCAR  Number 8 car.

  1. What year did the Duffers win the Downers Grove Men's Summer League Championship? August 1983. Who were the goalies? Stump and Slimedog Name some of the players. Ken Lopatka, Brian Kraft, Donny and Tony Granato. 

  2. What year did the Duffers win their second Men's league Championship? August 1992. How was this different from the first championship? We had a female on our team.  Cammie Granato had a hat trick in the championship win.

  3. When was “Wheezer” Clementson added to the “King’s Meaningless Trophy”? June 1992 What is his first name? John

I got some complaints that the trivia questions were too hard and they made people read. Try these.

  1. What is Harvey's first name? Arvydas Bonus points if you can give his last name. Dikinis. He could have played in the Three I league.

  2. When is the next Friday the 13th? April 2012.  There will be another one the following July.

  3. Who was the first SOD to become Meaningful? Cowboy Joe Mazzarella.

  1. What was the most goals scored in one game by a Duffer? 
  2. Who was that puck hog and what year did that happen? Beak, age 40, scored 10 goals in his first game after completing his DuPage college hockey course in September of 1980.  He got an A.
  3. Who scored back to back open net goals? When? On September 29, 1995, fifty five year old Beak set a Duffer record when he hit the open net from his own zone with 3 seconds left to play.  Beak ended the 9/22/95 contest with an open net goal from the neutral zone.

  1. Magoo was the 3rd Duffer to get the Most Improved Player award. What year was that? What was his Nickname then? John "F. Lee" Landry received the award in 1979

  2. Who were the other winners of that prestigious award?  (That award was discontinued when we stopped improving)  1973, Wally Kraft was the first to win the MIP.  There were no winners until 1977, when Mike "The Painter" Macica was awarded the Most Improved Player trophy at the 1st Annual Duffer Picnic at Argonne Woods. Paul The Commander Jankowski received the award in 1978.  Gene "Thor" Miller won it in 1980. Tom "Slime Dog" Kowalkowski and Jim "Titz" Michalson were awarded the trophy in 1981. Frank Presecki won it in 1982.  In 1983 The King was presented with the “King’s Meaningless Trophy” and Bill "Klinger" Giffune was awarded the Most Improved Player trophy at the 7th Annual Duffer Picnic at Argonne Woods. Stump Barczynski is the first commoner to receive the “King’s Meaningless Trophy” and John "Gomez" Santoro was awarded the Most Improved Player trophy.  

  3. When did we start giving the least dis-improved award? Name one of the recipients. In 1984 we stopped improving. so we started giving the Least Dis-improved award.  Dan Mazanec and Klinger were the only Duffers that admitted getting that award before it was discontinued. 

  4. What year did Beak and his son Ken take a college course in Hockey? What grades did they earn? In the summer of 1980, Beak and his son Grandpa Ken signed up for a College of DuPage course in Hockey.  Beak got an A and his son got a B even though his slap shot lit up the radar gun at 95 MPH.  The radar gun was unable to read Beak's shot, but he had perfect attendance. (Ken's attendance was less than perfect)

  1. Who had the first Duffer shut out? Who had the second one? Stump shut out the Blues 6-0 on January 25, 1990.  He Shut them out again on March 23 the same year with the same score!

  2. What year did the Duffers have their first Thanksgiving game?  November, 27, 1980, after the 1980 Miracle on Ice, Wally Kraft made up 2 teams for the 1st Turkey Skate. He gave out hand outs with the teams on the Friday before.  It was a 12-3 blow out, as He stacked his team with young guns.

  3. When was the King's Meaningless Trophy missing?  Who lost it? Who found it? Bill “Klinger” Giffune was awarded  the “King’s Meaningless Trophy” at The 1993 Picnic,  He kept it for 3 years. The trophy was so meaningless that no one could remember who had it. No one was awarded the trophy for 3 years until Klinger found it in his basement under a pile of Slider boxes. 2 of them still contained fossilized sliders!  Thor, Papa Joe and Harvey were given the meaningless trophy at the 1996 picnic to make up for the missing years.  Klinger later confessed that it was actually on his dresser and his wife said, "When are you going to give this back?"

  2. Who broke the youngest Duffer goal record held by Tweedy since 1981? Frank's Grandson Bobby Fetting was a few months younger than Tweedy.

  3. When was Don Granato is named head coach of the Worcester Ice Cats? August 20, 2000, just a few months after winning the Kelly Cup in Peoria.

  4. When were the Duffers described as “self-deprecating” in the Chicago Tribune? 

    February 3, 1998, the Duffers were described as “self-deprecating” in the Chicago Tribune.  A page and a half was devoted to Cammi Granato. Ten days later on the other side of the world, Cammi Granato was busy scoring 2 goals and setting up 2 more as Team USA scored 6 goals in the 3rd period to Beat Canada 7-4 in Nagano, Japan.

6/13/08 Eddie and Brian go Fishing.  We have 4 goalies and 5 sets of goalie pads.  Whites beat Jason 7-6
7/13/07 Tweedy tops the Anvil, 9-4.  4/13/07 No Ice
10/13/06 Eddie stops a ton of Granato shots, but falls to the Brain. Hat Trick for Brinks
1/13/06 The Anvil had another great game, only to lose when his son banks one in off of his back.
5/13/05 Geno scores with 7 seconds left in the game to give the Kid from Peoria a tie against Brian.
8/13/04 Anvil loses a shut out late, then loses the game to Brian as Beak got the game winner.
