 Nick Hammers the Anvil!

November 17th

We skated for almost 3 hours in the Peoria Civic Center, where ice is rented at $1000 per hour. The most memorable goal was scored by Nick "Ball Pin Hammer" Hawrysio when he beat his dad after several attempts.  He is learning the Duffer ways quickly, he gave Beak 2 bucks for a beer in the locker room.
The goal was scored in The Peoria Civic Center in front of a sparse crowd of 5.  Doc’s Daughter Becky, the Peoria Goalie’s Father, 2 window washers and Beer-Nuts.  Let’s hear it for Mr. Nuts!  He was suffering with a pulled “Hammy”.  Did he call in sick?  No, he went to Peoria and suffered through our game, moved cars for players  that were parked illegally and stayed up most of the night listening to Beak and Bob Plager stories.

November 20th

On Tuesday, Beak called Super Dave at Clubhouse Designs
(708) 554-0785 in Beautiful Bellwood to see if he could put a Duffer gift together for Jason and baby J.D.  "Super Dave" came  through like a champ with a Duffer baby top (pictured below) and a Duffer golf shirt for the Proud Papa. Jason's wife, Kelly, gave birth to J.D. on
September 11, 2001

Beak carried the Duffer gifts down to Peoria in his electric car using only 3 gallons of gas.  He was on his way to a frugal fun day.  He would use his Media Pass to watch the Rivermen game from the TV booth. (He didn't really need a Media Pass, because Steve, the Head TV camera man, was a Peoria Duffer) Beak made one only one mistake, He dropped his wife at the casino while he was at the game.  This trip ended up costing more than a Duffer overnight Peoria road trip. It was worth it, as the Duffers kept their Rivermen winning streak alive with a thrilling 2-1 win over Cincinnati.  That win put them into first place.

November 22nd

The 21 year Duffer Thanksgiving tradition was kept alive when Beak rented an hour and a half of ice at Seven Bridges Ice Rink at $250 per hour. Beak was worried, with $375 on his Visa card for a 7:50 AM game.  His fears were soon removed when the locker rooms started to over flow. We were able to raise $370.  The game was dominated by goalies Gary "The Ghost" and Eddie "The Anvil". Only Thor was able to score a meaningful goal to give the Ghost Whites a 1-0 win. The winning goal started when Larry fired a break out pass from behind his own net to Mr. Clean, who quickly chipped it to Beak at the blue line.  Beak carried it to the center line and hit a streaking Thor Miller with a pass at the attacking blue line.  Eddie "The Anvil" was mesmerized by the 3 complete passes that he froze when Thor blew the shot past him.  Rich Storm and Tweedy (Maybe it was Beavis, he bought me a beer) added meaningless goals for the Whites. Andy (Beer-Nuts Jr.) took a pass from Ken Lopatka and fired a low stealth shot through a maze of legs for the first Red goal. Johnny Z and Dizzy Dzingle scored to give the Reds a thrilling 3-3 come from behind tie. Great Defense by Frank, Klinger, Beavis and his brother kept the scoring to a minimum.  Brinks and "The Anvil" were named MVPs for their parking lot contributions.  Brinks gave all he had when he opened his tail gate cooler.  The Strohs went fast, so Eddie opened the refrigerator in his Camper and that sent us home at a respectable hour ready to give thanks.
