12 Goals, Everybody Wins

Another Tie!

A stout defense by Grandpa Ken, Tweedy, Bill BTW and Rich Storm was able to hold the high scoring Granatos to 4 goals.  Scott The Bookie Wayne surprised everyone with 2 goals for the Whites.  Brinks had the first and only Meaningful goal of the year.  Don's cousin Steve scored one and Rob Piggy Bank Granato accounted for the other 2 goals for the Whites.  The Reds had 6 goals too with Special Ed leading the charge with 2.  Jeff, Tweedy, V-Man and Mini Wheezer had one each to account for the other goals.  Jeff had a chance to win it in the closing seconds, but Stump threw his stick and broke up the play.  A penalty shot would have been awarded to Jeff,

but we were in a hurry to get to the lobby because our fans were eating all of the chili that Cyd Louis made for us.  Thank You to all of the people that brought in food that produced wonderful spread of tasty treats.  I won't try to mention names, because I did not know who brought what. After our 6-6 tie, I found this quote that I used 8 years ago in a Duffer News.
The Duffers have more ties than the Marshal Field men's department.*  The Ghost and the Anvil battled to a 3-3 tie last week, with goals by Rich Storm, Tommy and Johnny Z for the Blues.  Tweedy (2) and Morgan scored for the Whites.  Thor scored the only meaningful goal that was disputed when the Anvil moved the net.  Super Dave scored a disputed goal for the Blues when he kept hacking the Ghost until the puck went through him.  The Whites naturally were happy to count the disputed goals, because that gave them a meaningful win.

*When I saw this quote in the Sun Times, I asked the Commissioner of the Catholic Hockey league, Jim Misiora**, if I could use this quote.  Jim said, "sure, I can't remember where I stole it from."
**Marshal Field is gone, as is Jim Misiora.

We had a wonderful turn out for the Tim Smith New Year's day Skate.  Mike was able to make a $1,100.00 donation to the College Fund for Tim's children in the name of the Duffers.  We were able to watch the Red Wings beat the Hawks on the lobby TVs.  It made us glad we didn't spend hundreds to sit in the cold at Wrigley.  If you want a 2 hour DVD of the game and festivities, I would be happy to send one out to you for $10.00.  All profits will go to Tim's Kids.

I will also be producing a musical picture DVD of the event.  I was proud to be a Duffer on this wonderful day.  That Banner that was produced at Grant Importing  was a thing of beauty.  Thanks to everyone!

Bill BTW Loses Towel!

Another Great Game!

We lived up to our motto "A Drinking Team with a Hockey Problem" on Friday night as we had a record 18 Duffers show up at Wild Wings.  Skating 2 days in a row felt great.  We worked up a good thirst, so Brinks didn't have to carry any left over beer home.  Boris got the Whites on the board early, when he banged in a rebound.  Brinks kept his 2009 goal a game average going and made it 2-0 while the Brain was spectacular in the first period, kicking everything out.  Jeff finally solved him in the second period and his Dad, Grandpa Ken, scored one too for the Reds, but the Whites were busy with goals by Jeff's Uncle Dan and Back Hand Johnny.

With a record 18 Turn out at Wild Wings, we lived up to our motto

Rich Storm made it 4-3 with a nice tap in past the Brain.  Harvey deflected a TZ bullet for a meaningful goal, but when he admitted that he didn't mean to do that, Geno wondered if it can be meaningful if you don't mean to do it.  Thor started the third period with a goal that gave the Whites a 3-1 meaningful lead.  Towelless Bill BTW made it 6 to 4 with a goal.  Tom O'Connor fired a laser pass to a speedy Special who went so fast that he looked off side, but no one complained because it was such a pretty goal.  AJ scored a pair of late goals for the Whites to clinch the White win.  TZ and Mini Wheezer scored to give the Reds make it close, as the Whites squeaked out an 8-7 win.

The most drama took place after the game, when Bill BTW couldn't find his towel.  Every body was laughing except Bill.  Tom told Bill to check Tweedy's bag, because He usually leads the league in pranks.
It was reported that an extra towel with a brown stain was found but no one wanted to touch it.

Beak, Bookie and  Stump kept their perfect attendance going with back to back game following the Fog game.

It was great to see Thor back, He had some entertaining stories about kidney Stones bouncing off of his bedroom ceiling fan.

Grandpa Ken suggests a forging solution to crush Thor's Kidney stones, but Thor doesn't like the thought of that.

Not much has changed since 2001.  Here is a quote from Duffer News from February 2, 2001

Beak e-mailed the Duffer News reporter, Rich Storm, and asked for help.  The following e-mail was his reply:
"I remember as much of the game as you, but I do know the Blues showed up at Henry's and drank more beer than the Whites."
Blue Team Beer drinkers:
Rich Storm, Beak, Frank, Klinger, Tommy Z, Johnny Z,
Mini-Wheezer.
White Team Beer drinkers:
Thor, The King, Koss, Stump.

I think this will be a good tie breaker!

Don't go out there, you will have too many men on the ice.  We had more fun than the Chicago Black Hawks.
