6 years ago, when Ryan Dzingel just turned 20 years old, He skated with the Duffers when we went to Columbus. Ryan is now 26 years old and he scored his 22nd and 23rd goals on the last day of the season.  That tied him for the most goals for the Ottawa Senators.  Click on the pictures below to watch the videos of his goals.

I just wish that Ryan Dzingel's grandpa Rich could be here enjoying Ryan's great success. Lung cancer took Rich away before Ryan was born. I played football with Rich at Holy Trinity High School in the late 1950s. Rich never played hockey, but I was able to persuade him into getting his sons some Franklin skates so that they could play hockey on my back yard rink. Ryan's Dad Rick went on to play hockey with the Duffers Hockey club and he skated in the San Jose Shark Tank with us. He got Ryan into hockey as a mite and the rest is history. I created a web page with My Memories of Rich Dzingel at: http://www.lopatka.net/Rich Dzingel/index.htm

Laughter turned to Nail Biting!

Sunday, April 8, 2017. Wags Vs Guinness (Attendance 2) Joe "Bro" Matker called in sick, Coach Dan and Mike Miller had flights to catch. Tory and Mario have been hard to find, so Wags only had 6 skaters at game time, but Ryan "Bara" Kuta got a standing ovation when he rushed into the locker room at 10:10 for the 10:10 game. He dressed quickly and was on the ice for the opening faceoff.  Wags now had 7 skaters and Guinness had 8. Two minutes into the game, Alec "De Angel" Deangelo took a stick to the face to give Wags an early 2 minute power play. Wags set up a nice power play with frequent moves that had the Guinness goalie dizzy. Tommy Z sent a pass to Mike "M&M" Matker who fired a high hard one into the net to give Wags an early lead. Ed "The Wall" Waghorne made 13 saves in period 1 to protect the 1-0 lead. He had to  make several break away saves. The Angel made it 2-0 with an unassisted goal late in the period. Six minutes into the 2nd period, Alec added another unassisted goal when he dazzled and befuddled defenders before firing

Ed was awarded the MVP Glowing Rod.

a blistering wrist shot past the Guinness Goalie. Thirty one seconds later, Tommy Z set up De Angel for a Hat Trick goal that gave Wags a 4-0 lead half way through the game. Kevin "Smooth as"  Glass made it 5-0 when he converted a pass from New Hampshire Mike Atsalis with 4:10 left in period 2. The Fans were looking forward to the 5 goal lead rule kicking in in the 3rd period, but A Guinness guy spoiled Ed's shut out with a wacky goal with 1 minute and 57 seconds left in the period. So we started the period with stop time in force until Tom "Senior Citizen" Zagorski scored on a nice set up from Alec DeAngel to trip the Running clock 5 goal rule. That happened just 26 seconds into the third period.  Time was flying as it looked like we were in for an early beer until Guinness scored with 6:51 left to play. That goal stopped the clock and gave Guinness a lift as they found out that Ed is mortal.  Three minutes later Guinness scored again and suddenly it was 6-3.  No prob

lem, a 3 goal lead is safe, but 15 seconds later it was a 2 goal lead and Guinness pulled their goalie and added a 6th attacker for the final minutes and Ed had to make several saves, but then it happened with 35 seconds left, we had

a 1 goal differential. The final seconds saw 6 guys attacking the net as the Wags guys tried desperately to get the puck out of the zone. When the final horn sounded everyone needed a beer.
Ed The Wall Waghorne made 33 saves in one of his finest games.
