This is a view of the bridge that Our pictures of the DuPage River were taken.  Views 1 and 2 were taken with my right shoulder touching the center lamp post on the North side of Hillside Road.  Views 3 and 4 were taken from the South side of Hillside Road, with my right shoulder touching the lamp post that was closest to Washington Street.

In January 2014, the Chicago area was with sub zero Fahrenheit temperatures for 5 days, so I went to check the DuPage River to see if it froze up.  We have never had a 100% freeze up of the river since we started checking it. The following pictures were taken on January 9, 2014 when the River almost got to a 95%  frozen state. The following day, temperatures finally went to above freezing levels and we were hit wit 35CM of rain.

This has been the 9th coldest winter in history and the DuPage River has not frozen like it did in the 1960s and 1970s. We have had over 50 inches of snow and we haven't finished January. The thermometer above shows the high for the day on January 28, 2014.  The low temperature was -12 outside my window in Downers Grove, IL.

If the river does not freeze this year, I doubt that it will freeze until the next ice age.  My theory is that the DuPage River has more pollutants now than it did in 1970s.
