Emil is working on a game in Bloomington on one of our off weeks.

Romeoville, IL September 7, 2007
Attendance 24

What a great group of guys the King assembled over a 35 year period!!

I sent out a plea for beer, because Brinks, our MVP, was going to have to miss opening night. I had 3 offers in less than 30 seconds, 2 from guys who haven't skated in a while. Mike "The Nailer" DeVivo, who has had his political life deprive him of several years of laughter, said, "I don't know if I can still skate, but I know I can drink beer, how much should I bring?"

Stump Presented Basketball Jones

Geno, who has been on the IR for most of last season and doesn't even drink beer (Hear that Fred?) replied that he would bring what ever we needed and he was bringing his Duffer Dues check for $275. He's Back!  Perry the Flea also replied in the first minute, like he always does. God I love those Canadians!  A little later, Special Ed, Klinger and Art also offered. I told them to save it for next time. I know the rest of you were "fittin" (That's how my students said fixing) to reply some time later, but don't get discouraged, we will need you later in the year.  Our motto is safe, "A Drinking Team with a Hockey Problem"

The First Game of our 37th season!

It was almost game time and the three beer guys were not there!  Perry showed up just when we started to panic, then Geno came in with another case as we were getting on the ice.  Our third beer guy, Mike the Nailer showed up after the game, sort of like "Neil the beer guy" in Midnight Hockey.  The good news was he didn't roll his car over like Neil,  He was just lost.  He did make it to Buffalo Wild Wings to help Klinger and Beak finish off 36 wings.  The Whites were running away with the game early, as Bill By The Way got the first goal of the 2007-08 season.  He added another later on.  The Maestro, Bill Conti, also popped in a pair.  Art had 2 before he blew out his knee.  He will see an Ortho guy on Wednesday.  Art thinks it is an ACL or the Meniscus.  Jeff Lopatka had 4 assists as he set up Stump , who was cruising in from the point.  Jeff also scored 4 of his own.  The Reds made a valiant comeback with 6 goals by Tweedy and TommyMini Wheezer scored while his wife and sister-in-law were not paying attention.  Beak had the only Meaningful Goal when he flipped in a pass from Tommy Z that Tweedy redirected to his "old man".

Reds 1, Whites 0.  A Meaningful shutout for the Anvil!

The Following Duffers are in the running for perfect attendance:

Fruit Cake, Stump, BBTW, Knarf, Klinger, Beak, Hacksaw, Geno, The Nailer, Mini Wheezer, Tweedy, Tommy and Johnny Z (Although Johnny gets a tardy) Emil, The Flea, Beak Jr, Jeff, Anvil, Brain, Maestro, Kraners Bookie, Special ED, Beer Nuts, Magoo, Harvey, Art, and Basketball Jones.

He's now official!
