First Duffer Win for Matt!

3 Meaningful Goals!

Matt Hammer (Steve Hammerman's son) got to play his first full Duffer game.  You may remember back on October 5th we had a goalie malfunction so Steve the Hammer called his wife and told her to grab their son's goalie equipment and bring it to the rink immediately!  Matt was dressed and taking warm up shots, so he went back to the locker room and waited for his Mom to deliver his pads. Amazingly, Matt was dressed and ready to play by the second period.  He took a controversial loss that night, so he couldn't wait to get another chance at being the Duffer goalie.  His high hopes were shattered early when Art took the opening face off, raced in and scored.  That started a wild game that had the Reds chasing the lead all night.  Greg Z scored on the next shift to put the Whites up 2-0.  Speed Racer Jeff asked his grandpa Beak if he could get a goal now.  Beak said sure so he did. Tommy Z scored shortly after that to tie the score.  Greg Z wrestled the lead back with his second goal.  Tommy Z tied it with his second goal.  Jeff set his grandpa up with a nice pass, but then he skated in front of the Brain and created a screen.  Beak fired a low hard ice hugger that hit Jeff's skate and the score remained tied.

The latest Duffer Goalie. 

So Jeff set up his grandpa then blocked his shot! Art beat Matt in the second period to take a 4-3 lead. Then Greg Z made it 5-3. Tom "TO" O'Conner made it 5-4 when he took a pass from Tommy Z and fired a blast that the Brain kicked out, but TO followed his shot and buried the rebound. Early in the third period, Tommy Z fired a pass to Beak who jammed it into the Brain's back door to tie the score again. The look on Tom's face was priceless. He had the look of a guy who just set up a Stanley Cup winner. That is what is so great about the Duffers. V-Man scored to give the Whites a 6-5 lead then The Commander's son Jack was a well behaved SOD all night as he passed up shooting chances to pass to a Duffer.  That is the Duffer way. He finally had the leash removed so he beat his buddy Matt to give the Whites a 7-5 lead.    The Reds found themselves down 2 goals again, so  Jeff's Brother Mike fired a clearing pass that sent him on his way to a break away goal and the Reds were back within striking distance and strike they did as Tommy Z answered Greg's hat trick with a game tying goal that gave him a Hat trick with 1 minute left to play. The Reds entered the offensive zone and started firing shots at the Brain, but he stopped them all.  The Whites fired a clearing pass that Monet' Mike kept in with a glove save.  He then spotted TO breaking for the right side of the net, so Mike fired an ice hugging pass the Tom redirected into the net just as the final seconds ticked off of the clock to give the Matt the Hammer a thrilling 8-7 win!

We have 21 paid skaters.  I only have room for 9 more skaters.  The deadline is January 1

We had a sextet for lunch. Clockwise: Jim, Boris, Bill, Greg, Tom and Joe or King, Hacksaw, Klinger, Beak TZ and Papa Joe.

The King is ready for Detroit.

Tom and Beak have a drink to celebrate the goals they scored.
