These are pictures of Lake Marmo  in Lisle, Illinois

Site Name:  "Lake Marmo"

Longitude: 41.815379 North
Latitude: -88.081676 West
Climate zone: Humid Continental
vegetation zone: Mixed Forest.  deciduous and coniferous
When I started taking pictures of this site, there were 3 trees in the frame.  In September of 2014, the tree on the left was cut down. In August 2017, the other 2 trees were removed, but I am still taking pictures every month.

I send a picture every month from this site to Markus Eugster in Switzerland. He has a website with pictures from many teachers around the world.

December 17, 2011 It warmed up and the lake lost most of the ice. The first snowfall was 4mm, but it melted in a few days.

2012-01-15.JPG (2111151 bytes)

January 15, 2012 We finally got some measurable snow.  (200 mm.) the lake had a thin coat of ice that was able to support the snow.

November 1, 2017

This was the greenest November first that I have observed in the last 10 years.  The Male Ginkgo tree pictured below is usually bright yellow in October and bare in November. I returned to this site on November 5th and the Ginkgo were still green.  We had a frost on November 7th and the tree was almost bare on November 8th when I visited.  (Pictured in the left frame)

The Ginkgo tree above went from green to bare without showing the beautiful golden leaves.  I have a 2007 picture of this tree posted on Cor's Ginkgo Photos and Videos

December 1, 2017 (Still very Green)

January 1, 2018

The lake froze up on December 15 and the temperature has not been above freezing for the past 11 days.

February 1, 2018 The Snow was gone, but the lake is 100% ice.

February 14, the lake was snow covered after 9 straight days of measurable snowfall.

February 28, the lake was 98% free of ice. The temperature was 65 degrees Fahrenheit. (18.3 C)

I took advantage of the mild temperature to sit in the tree stump chair that sculptured by a chainsaw artist.

I took my March Picture on the last day of February.

On the November 27 we had 18 cm of heavy wet snow fall. Lake Marmo had a thin coat of ice that was able to hold the snow.  (Pictured above) On that date, the lake was 80% covered with snow. Today, on the December 6 picture (Left), you can see that there is no snow near the shores and the ice/snow cover was reduced to about 30%.
