GLOBE Phenology

Naperville Community Unit School District 203

On October 11, 2008, the students from Steeple Run started documenting the green down of 4 study trees at the Morton Arboretum.  We have been monitoring the atmosphere, soil and hydrology data at the GLOBE Study site since 2004.

Students compare the color and report it to GLOBE.

London Plane Tree is still green.

The White Oak is still Green.

It had some insect damage to our study leaves.

The Bur Oak had some leaves showing fall colors.

Last week they were all green.

The Bur Oak had a yellow leaf.

Our Rain gauge had 29.4 mm of rain in it since last week.

The students recorded the soil and air temperatures.

The Thermometer logs Min Max temperatures for 6 days.

The Gingko had no insect damage or color change.

It was a lighter shade than the Oaks.

Lake Marmo is putting on a colorful display, soon we will be monitoring the freeze up of the lake.
