Our 45th Season Opens!

Romeoville, IL September 5, 2014  Attendance: 23

Bill BTW is Now Meaningful!

We had a nice turnout for the season opener of our 45th season. Every guy came out and paid his dues. (The recession must be over) Each team had 2 full lines and we had 2 goalies.  Eddie the Anvil and Johnny B were ready for some pucks.  It didn't take too long for the first goal of the season to be scored.  Bill BTW jumped on to the ice for a line change and beat JB before the spent line could sit down.  A few minutes later, Speed Racer Jeff blew one past Johnny for a quick 2-0 lead. Beak told his grandson to stop shooting.  Doc Dubriel brought out a friend who had not skated since the 1990s.  Dinosaur Dan Margoliash was in the right place at the right time and he redirected a pass from Bill BTW past JB to give the Whites a 3-0 lead.

T&A Terry and Maestro had their sons there and Beak had his grandsons and great grandkids cheering him on.

Commander Ken cashed in on a nice passing play from Jeff and T&A to make it 4-0 midway through the first period.  Tommy Z put an end to that nonsense and quickly blew a pair of goals past the Anvil to make the score 4-2.  T&A took a pass from his son t&a and made it 5-2.  TZ quickly answered that to get a first period hat trick.  Lil Bill quickly popped in a pair and the first period ended in a 5-5 tie.  The Maestro told Jeff to get a goal and break the tie.  Little t&a beat him to it and opened the scoring in the second period with a break away goal to give the Reds a 6-5 lead. T&A then set up Commander Ken to extend the lead to 7-5.  Greg Z cut the lead in half with a shot that beat the Anvil.  Speed Racer Jeff made it 8-6 with a nice wrist shot that zipped past JB. The Whites stormed back with a goal by V-Man to make it 8-7. Jeff's big brother, Mike Tattoo made a beautiful blind back hand pass to his brother, but V-Man jumped in and took the pass in for a game tying goal. Dinosaur Dan scored his second goal to give the Reds a 9-8 lead.   He went 30 years without a goal then scored 2 in less than an hour.  T&A and his son t&a teamed up to put two insurance goals on the board in the closing minutes of the game to give the Reds an 11-8 win. Two meaningful goals by T&A and one by Bill BTW gave Eddie a 3-0 Meaningful Shutout.  The score was not indicative of the game that featured great saves by both goalies. Magoo showed up to test his healing knee in warm ups. It was declared good to go for next week by Magoo, our team lawyer. The following Duffers have Perfect Attendance: Anvil, Tattoo Mike , Speed Racer Jeff, T&A, t&a, Maestro, Dino Dan, Doc, Commander Ken, Bill BTW, Beak, Johnny B, Lil' Bill, Steve the Hammer, Brinks, Czar, Tumblin Terry, Fruitcake Fred, V-Man, Greg Z, Joe Mazz Cubed, Tommy Z and Russian Drago, Joe.

.

Lennie and Carmela Lopatka came out to watch their Dad, Uncle and great grandpa play hockey. Tom Ambrosia, Bill Conte and Terry Nance had their sons on the ice too.

Johnny B had to make many saves, 11 went in, but he sported a .990 save %.  The Anvil saved .992%.

We had a nice turnout for the golf outing.

Other summer fun included 3 trips to the Tilted Kilt.

We had a great picnic in July.

Bill BTW was honored with the Klinger Krash Award.

Joe "Drago" Evans was the latest Duffer to get his name engraved on the Second Generation Meaningless Trophy.

The Winner of the Imperfect Attendance award was not present to accept his award.

         The Asteroid Missed us!

The crater is in a wooded area near Managua's international airport and an air force base.
A meteorite crashed down in Managua, Nicaragua, late Saturday night, causing a loud explosion and leaving a crater 39 feet (12 meters) across, government officials said, according to The Associated Press. No damage or injuries were reported. The crater is in a wooded area near Managua's international airport and an air force base. AP quoted government spokeswoman Rosario Murillo as saying they've determined it was a "relatively small" meteorite that "appears to have come off an asteroid that was passing close to Earth." NASA hasn't confirmed a link between the meteorite and the asteroid. The newly discovered asteroid, called 2014 RC, that passed safely above the Earth on Sunday September 6, 2014 at a distance of about 25,000 miles (40,000 kilometers). NASA said,  -- just one-tenth the distance from the center of Earth to the moon. It was estimated to be 60 feet (18 meters) long.
