Hat Trick for The Czar!

Romeoville, IL September 12, 2014  Attendance: 19

We had a disappointing turnout for the second game of the season.  Our perfect attendance list dropped from 21 down to 13. The Red team had 9 skaters and the Whites only had 8, so there were some tired puppies after the game.  Only Doc, V-Man, The Maestro, Terry, Rags, Berserk and Beak had enough energy to make it over to Wild Wings. The Czar put the Reds on the board with an early goal, then he set up Jeff Speed Racer Lopatka with a nice pass. Jeff pushed the puck past his big brother, Mike, and into the net.  Art answered that goal with a blast past The Anvil to make it Reds 2, Whites 1.  Jim "Rags" Ragland tied it a little later with a blistering ice hugger.  Art's son "AJ" who will soon be able to supply the Duffers with legal drugs, (He will graduate from Drake U. in May with a degree in Pharmacology) gave the Reds a 3-2 lead with a pretty top shelf flip that beat the sprawling Johnny B.  Beak asked AJ if he was playing at school because he didn't lose a step. The wordy AJ said "No." Just when the Reds got comfortable, the almost Meaningful Chris "Berserk" scored a pair to give the Whites a 4-3 lead.  Jeff had a clean break away so he veered off to the left face-off circle and waited for a meaningful teammate. Along came Magoo, dragging his bad leg, so  Jeff put the puck

Rags and Berserk showed their stamina by showing up to Wild Wings.  A lot of younger guys couldn't do that.

on John's tape right in his wheelhouse.  Magoo fired a one timer that Johnny B had to make a great save to protect the one goal lead.  V-Man got the lead back for the Reds with a pair of goals. The Czar added another goal to make the score Reds 6, Whites 4. Just  after "Tumblin" Terry showed off his best (Maybe First) stop of his career when he went crashing toward the net and Berserk's pass was a little behind him.  (Chris calculated his pass for a normal Duffer speed.) Terry got 4 "Wows" from the Red bench when he slammed on the breaks and maintained his balance! Terry blew one past the Anvil to make it a one goal game. Jeff's big brother, Mike "The Artist" Lopatka, took a pass at the point and he stick handled around his Grandpa Beak. His Grandpa forced him deep where a bad angle shot would have little chance of going in, but Mike fired a bad angle rocket that somehow found it's way into the net to tie the game 6-6.  Beak went over to console the bewildered Anvil saying, "Eddie!  You know that is Kenny's kid and he never met a shot that he wouldn't take." The Anvil just shook his head and said, "I know, I just couldn't get up."  Little bro, Jeff, couldn't be outdone by his brother, so he scored with a back hander to get the lead back after he got permission to shoot from his grandpa.  T&A filed a mild protest saying, "Hey, you're not allowed to turn Jeff loose unless you are down two goals." AJ scored his second goal to put the Reds up 8-6.  Art couldn't be outdone by his kid, so he made it 8-7 with a rocket that parted the defenders who all said, "We don't block shoots, let the guy with the big pillow pads get that one."  The Anvil never saw it so the last 2 minutes were tense with the outcome still in doubt.  With one minute left in the game, Johnny B raced to the bench to add a 6th attacker. It almost worked as the Whites fired 4 hard shots that the Anvil kicked out.  The Czar put an end to the suspense and scored an open net goal to pick up his Hat Trick and seal a thrilling 9-7 win.  The Anvil is now 2-0 to start the season and he was nominated for the Klinger Krash award for his collision with Berserk.
The following Duffers have Perfect Attendance: Anvil, Johnny B, Artistic Mike, Speed Racer Jeff, T&A, Maestro,

Doc, Bill BTW, Beak, Czar, Tumblin Terry, Fruitcake Fred and V-Man.

Lopatka's Guest Barron, gets a taste of Grandpa Ambrosia's Wild Turkey.  It was a gift from T&A's future son-in-law.  Barron is just starting to play hockey.

Berserk was still smiling after his "Klinger Krash Award" worthy collision with The Anvil. He received $800 in popcorn orders.  (Getting Orders is easy, collecting the money is hard)
