Waghorne Stops Rangers!

Tuesday, June 26, 2018. Wags Vs Rangers (Attendance 2)
Last Thursday night, the fans were treated to a most exciting hockey game on when Wags came from behind to down the Rangers with 5 late goals in the 3rd period. This time, in a play off rematch, the game started out like it was going to be another thriller. Nobody was able to score in the first 10 minutes but Danny "The Mayor" Emanuel ended that scoring drought when he converted a pass from M&M Mike Matker. Steve G-Man Gaul added a goal three minutes later with a pass from Mike Miller High Life. That gave Wags a 2-0 lead going into period number two. Four minutes into the period, Miller High Life converted a pass from Tom "Z-Man" Zagorski to make it 3 to nothing. M&M Mike made it 4-0 when he got an assist from the Kevin " Smooth As" GlassMike Fates gave Wags a 5-0 lead with 6 minutes left in period 2 when he was assisted by Colin

"Semicolin" Fitzpatrick. The fans in the stands were cheering wildly because a 5 goal lead means a running clock in the third period, so they get to the beer a little sooner than usual.  Ed "The Wall Waghorne was outstanding as he stopped every shot as we added two more goals to take a 7-0 lead. Joe Tommy Gun Tomasek scored both goals. His first one came with 11 minutes left and the second one went in at 7:08. Miller High Life and The Mayor assisted on the first goal and Justin "Latex Salesman" Vanderee assisted on the second one. It looked like Ed was headed for a rare men's League shutout but Ken Koziol got a break away and scored with 4:37 left in the game. Wags had a dominating game putting 46 shots on the Ranger goalie while Ed only had to make 15 saves to

pick up the playoff win that lets them advance to the championship game on Thursday.

I managed to get the guys together for a picture after a tough loss. They lost the exciting championship game that had teams exchange the lead several times.

There were several swastikas on the walls of our locker room. I mentioned that the swastika was a symbol of good fortune or well being  well before Hitler turned it into a symbol of hatred.  I told them that my dad's 80 year old Macgregor 5 iron that had 2 of them etched into the club for good luck.

The word swastika comes from the Sanskrit svastika, which means “good fortune” or “well-being." The motif (a hooked cross) appears to have first been used in Neolithic Eurasia, perhaps representing the movement of the sun through the sky. To this day it is a sacred symbol in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism.
