Beak and Brian are Perfect!

Romeoville, IL February 16, 2018  Attendance: 24
24 hockey starved Duffers showed up to participate in a slow moving game. The game was like our first game of the season after a month off.  I always fear that I will not remember how to get dressed for the game after a long lay off.  John "UU" Schuuman got the Reds an early lead with a goal that he didn't know went in. He was rotating 3 right wings with Magoo and Beak and when he came to the bench, Beak said, "Nice goal." John replied, "Did that go in?". Commander Ken tied the game with a seeing eye shot that eluded the Anvil.  His striped son Ryan immediately waved it off.  He always does that when his dad scores. Tommy Z put the Reds back on top when he roofed one over the Bear's shoulder. TZ was robbed of several assists before when the Bear robbed Beak of goals several times with great saves.  Those shots were set by TZ, but the Bear made a great kick out and a glove save.  Beak's son, Grandpa Ken, robbed Beak with a skate save and he also picked off 2 or 3 of TZ's passes to Beak.  Beak gets no respect from his kids. GI Joe Mazzarella gave the Reds a 3-1 lead until Crash Terry crashed the net and tapped in an easy goal to make it 3-2.  Brian Stew beat the Bear to give the Reds a 2 goal lead. That lead lasted well into the third period until he tipped a shot from Terry past his own goalie. That 4-3 score gave us a tense final period until TZ scored late in the

game to give the Reds and Anvil a little breathing room.  They hung on for a thrilling 5-3 win.

Beak's grandsons were in Madison watching his great granddaughter Carmela play in a tournament.

Memorable Moments:  Brian Stewart had a Klinger Krash in the final seconds of period 2, then he tipped Terry's shot past his own goalie in the 3rd period.
Monet Mike was in Madison so MVP Anthony filled in and brought us the beer.

Stump showed up to show us his new hip.
Fred "Fruitcake" Bobka missed his first game of the season.  (He was a healthy scratch.)

Beak and Brian still have Perfect attendance at the rink and at the bar.

Duffer GODs were in Madison cheering for Carmela and Baylee.

Congratulations to Luke and Coach Dan for winning their Northern Illinois Hockey League Squirt division.  Luke had a nice top shelf power play goal on Saturday.

Duffer Referee, Carmela, had a great weekend in Madison.  She played 6 games and got to meet Baylee Wellhausen.

20 Years ago, Cammi Granato led the USA Women to an Olympic gold medal.  Cammi became the first woman  inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2010.

While watching the Blackhawk practice, I noticed a group of women with UAE Hockey Team red jackets. They were getting autographs and taking selfies with Tommy Wingels. (Pictured above) I talked to one of the women and found out that they were the United Arab Emirates Women's National Hockey Team. Blackhawk star, Tommy Wingels serves as the team's "Hockey Is For Everyone" ambassador, pledging to be a leader in the locker room and in the community. The group visited Washington, D.C., from Wednesday, Feb. 7 to Monday, Feb. 12. They are touring the USA and Canada as part of "Hockey Is for Everyone Month". They watched Chicago Blackhawks play the Ducks that night. They will go to see Ottawa Senators in Ottawa, Canada next. I told the lady that I talked to about skating on the Canal in Ottawa like I did when my son Dan was there for a tournament when he was a Pee Wee. She already knew all about the Canal and they were going to skate on it. I told her to say hi to Ryan Dzingel when she gets there. Maybe the Duffers Hockey can get in the "Hockey Is for Everyone Month" since we have players from every occupation and many senior citizens like me. ðŸ˜‰

September 1; Muzzy passed away. He gave us more laughs than any other Duffer.

He was born on May 20, 1935.  My son Dan was born on his birthday in 1970.

We shared a lot of Muzzy pictures in the last Newsletter.

This was 1997 when we brought up Robby Granato to give the Bombers 2 Illinois ringers.  We filled most of the coach seats and avoided a fun tax.  This is the year that Muzzy shocked Hayward church goers when he came out of the church and boarded the bus with toilet paper streaming out of his pants. Read More....
