Tony Granato, Don Granato, Mark Osiecki - interior image

Tony Granato, 51, said that in order for him to take the job he needed to have the "right people beside me to go in there and have the best chance for success, and those two people were Donny and Mark."  Two phone calls later — Don, 48, is a renowned cerebral tactician and Osiecki, 47, is a peerless recruiter — an extraordinary coaching staff was born. Tony received a five-year contract, while his two associate head coaches received three-year deals. "I think he's the right guy for it," Don Granato said of his brother. "I think he deserves it." Tony Granato has people skills that make him an ideal candidate to rally former players spread across three coaching eras — Bob Johnson, Jeff Sauer and Eaves — and seal large cracks in a fractured fan base.  Read More...

Matt Hammer Nails the Whites!

Romeoville, IL April 1, 2016  Attendance: 24

I didn't remember too much when I waited until Sunday to quiz my memory. I did remember that Matt Hammer made some great saves while getting his face shot off by Olgie.  Matt stole a goalie win for the Reds.  I remember John "Magoo" Landry scored the first goal for the Whites and Terry, Greg Z, Lil' Bill, Rob Z and a Cupcake assist of a forgettable goal. Was it Rags?  I remember  Harvey scored for the Reds when I was in the slot all alone calling for a pass.  Harvey shot from the goal line and got a bounce that only shooters in the "Zone" get.  Harvey told me that he was going to pass to me, but he thought that I would get a rebound.  I remembered Kyle Stumpet, Mini Wheezer, T&A and O'Connor scoring also.  Kyle had a pair of unforgettable Klinger KrashesFruitcake Fred crawled out of the sick bed to keep his

prefect attendance streak alive.  He has won the Fred Bobka Imperfect Attendance Award the last 2 seasons.  Fred has never gone to the bar, so that disqualifies him from receiving the Tim "Basketball Jones" Smith Perfect Award.  The Czar thought Fred should be recognized for his Duffer Dedication, so we created the Fred "Fruitcake" Bobka Imperfect Attendance Award two years ago. Unfortunately Fred was not present at the awards presentations at the last 2 picnics. (He likes to eat and run and avoid the spotlight.).  I gave up my chance to get the Tim Smith award again this year when I went to Arizona and missed my first game last week, but I did play 2 Duffer games in Detroit that might qualify for making up a missed game.  What do you think?  I had perfect attendance at the Kilt too.  Tim would give it to me.
The Game as T&A Remembers:

Matt (THE WALL) Hammer was stellar in the net for the Reds. He made highlight reel saves on Rob Z and Joe Mazz III (Olgie)!
Reds goals - Meaningful goals by TO - 2, Harvey - 1, & T&A - 1, Kyle (Stump's son) - 1, Mini Wheezer - 1, and Tommy Z - 2.
White goals - Meaningful goal by Magoo - 1, Terry - 1 (assist to Billy Conti), Rob Z - 1 (assist from Cupcake), Billy Conti - 1, and Greg Z - 1, with a slap shot that beat the 3rd period buzzer.  Reds 8, Whites 5

Courtney would like you to vote for her on the Tilted Kilt Website. She is in the final 45 of 800 contestants. Courtney was our first waitress last year and always stops over to say hello.

Kyle "Stumpson" scored his 2nd goal and had 2 Klinger Krashes.

T&A is the present owner of the Klinger Krash Award.

Rags is the present owner of the Next Generation Duffer Trophy.

We had to import the heads of Rags and T&A to the picnic.

Fred is only one game away for qualifying for the Fred Bobka Imperfect Attendance Award again.  Winner must be present at all games and never go to the bar, then be at the picnic for presentation.

We watched the Rivermen win and Ben Oskroba had an assist.

Ben signed autographs after the game for his many fans.

Is was great to see Uncle Bob and his Family

John Koss was a good roommate.

I got Ben's autograph.

This is Jill and Chris, they are fans of Ben.

Chris and Jill are opening a bar, so Bob and Mike brought beer.

We had pre game beers at the soon to open bar.

Bob's brother Pat went bowling, so he missed the group picture.

Tommy Z and the Czar showed up on Saturday for $2 beer night.

Uncle Bob filled Mike and Tom's ears with many stories.

The Czar was amused, but TZ was checking the Cubs on his phone.

After the game we walked to a bar for some beers.

Bob entertained Ben's fans while we waited for Ben to arrive.

Ben and his tennis star friend.

The Czar was amused by one of Ben's good looking fans.

Jack Kroll

Jack plays for the Chicago Fury.  This coming weekend at The Edge in Bensenville is the AHAI player Development camp.  Essentially – AHAI and coaches from Illinois nominate players in each birth year.  Jack is a 2000.  Jack is 1 of 64 Illinois 2000’s that will play a round robin scrimmage.  He is assigned team “White”.  He’ll be playing against team Blue, team Red, and team Green.  Many of his teammates from Fury are on other colored teams.  He’ll be playing against a lot of kids he knows from Mission, Team Illinois, and CYA.  Teams are randomly assigned.

He plays at 5PM on Friday, then again at 8AM and 2PM on Saturday.  The coaches and scouts then select 32 kids to move on for a game on Sunday.  A final roster of 18 kids will compete in the Central Districts ( in Wisconsin) vs kids from Wisconsin, Missouri, Iowa, etc… in front of the Team USA National Development coaches (Formerly Don Granato).   This is a nomination and evaluation process.  It’s VERY nice to be nominated and asked to play… the grand prize is getting on the radar of team USA.  HOWEVER… by age 16 – if you’re not on the radar of team USA, you’re probably not going to be.
