Duffers Hockey Schedule.

All games start at 8:30

We had several fun filled trips to Madison.  
We watched Kevin Granato play in 2001, then partied with Keith Magnuson and Cliff Koroll. Madison Wis. 2001 We had 7 duffers packed into the Berserk Van.
 

In 1992, Wally Kraft rented a Camper and we went to see Brian Kraft who was captain of his Anchorage Alaska Team play Donny Granato who was captain of the Wisconsin Badgers who went on to win the National Championship. Only the following entry in the Duffer News remains from that trip:


 
January, 1992;   3 Duffer SODs captain their College Teams.  Brian Kraft (Anchorage Alaska)  Don Granato, (University of Wisconsin) and Dan Lopatka.  (University of Wisconsin. River Falls) All 3 players were from Downers Grove.
A dozen Duffers travel to Madison to watch Brian and Don lock horns.  The rented Camper ran out of gas on the way home.
 
I got home at sunrise and had to think of a lie that my wife would believe.  She would never believe that we ran out of gas.

Beak Scores the 1st Goal!

Romeoville, IL September 9, 2016  Attendance: 20

The first game of the 2016-17 season started out at a brisk pace with the Whites having trouble getting the puck out of their zone,  Barron did a great job of keeping the game scoreless until Monet Mike fired an ice hugging pass from the right point to his Grandpa Beak who was camped off to the left of net.  Beak just stabbed at the speeding puck and redirected it past Barron for the first goal of the 2016-17 season.  It looked like that would be the only goal of the period as The Anvil and the Barron were stopping everything but, Doc poked a rebound past Barron with 40 seconds left on the clock to give the Reds a 2-0 lead after one period.  The second period was wide open with many chances for both teams.  John "Magoo" Landry scored to tie the meaningful score at 1-1.  Speed Racer Jeff was on a mission to get his grandpa another goal, because he knew his brother would not let him forget that he assisted on

Jeff and Mike helped their old grandpa score 2 goals in the season opener!  Grandpa Ken missed the opener because he had to work.

grandpa Beak's goal.  Beak had more chances from Jeff.  He fouled off a few, he shot a couple wide and then he finally one-timed a pass into the net for his second goal of the season and his 622nd goal of his Duffer career.  Just kidding, Beak's total would be a lot higher with 45 years.  Klinger remembers his first game with the Duffers in 1980 when Beak scored 10 goals on Slime Dog, but I digress, The Hammer added 2 goals in the second period on his way to a hat trick.  Birdman Dan had a strange goal when he put a shot on net from the point.  Barron stopped it then swatted at it to keep Jeff from getting the rebound. Barron popped it into the net for Dan.  Mini Wheezer, Jeff and Nick the Guest added late goals and Greg Z poked one past Eddie.
Memorable Moments:

  • Jeff and Mike were over zealous while trying to get Beak a hat trick.  They will return to normal. The Hammer did get a hat trick after a Klinger Krash.
  • Deana, our favorite waitress was there to greet us with welcome back hugs and the Duffer Discount.
Perfect Attendance: Anvil, Barron, Beak, Berserk, Birdman, Bob (Guest), Commander Ken, Doc, Dylan, Fruitcake, Greg Z, Hacksaw, Hammer, Magoo,  Nick (Guest), Mini Wheezer, Monet Mike, Olgi Joe, Speed Racer, and Terry .  Final Meaningful Score.  Reds 2, Whites 1

Alina gave us a geography lesson about her homeland, Moldova. We found out that it is a landlocked country in Eastern Europe, bordered by Romania to the west and Ukraine to the north, east, and south. The capital city is Chișinău. Moldova declared independence on 27 August 1991, as part of the dissolution of the Soviet Union.

 

Klinger has been having fun with the Duffers at lunch.

We had another poor turnout at the Kilt after the game.

My wife and I visited the Pabts Mansion in Milwaukee.

We watched the Cubs beat the Brewers.

Jeff and Mike have 5 Duffers on their Beer League team. They had simultaneous penalties.
