Mike Puts the Hat on Lil' Bro!

Romeoville, IL March 10, 2017  Attendance: 28
We had 3 full lines for the first time this season.   Speed Racer Jeff gave Barron a break and strapped on the goalie pads for the White team.  He did surprisingly well, making many great saves as the ice appeared to be slanted toward him.  His brother Monet Mike beat him early with a bad angle blast.  Then Brian The Steward tipped in a Harvey shot to give the Reds an early 2-0 lead.  Greg Z tipped a Drago Joe shot that flew past Matt who didn't have a chance.  Monet Mike pulled one of the cruelest tricks on Jeff when he came in on the left side with his grandpa

These 4 guys were on the 1998 San Jose team

Beak all alone in the slot.  For 18 years, Mike always passed to his grandpa whenever he had a chance, but this time, he took a bad angle shot that beat his little brother on the short side as Jeff was playing the odds of a sure pass to Beak.  Greg Z added another goal to make it 3-2  Reds.  After a few weeks off, Bill "Maestro" Conti renewed his hot scoring by tapping in a rebound to give the Reds a 4-2 lead.  Tom T&A beat Jeff after several tries, but his son Tom "t&a" Ambrosia scored for the Reds to cancel his Dad's goal.  With the Reds up 5-3, Fruitcake Fred almost put the game away when he fired a shot that missed an opening in the net by inches.  A Bobka Factor goal would have given the Whites a 24 goal lead!  The shot hit the boards and bounced right to Drago Joe who fired it past Matt the ball pin hammer to make the score 5-4.  That lively bounce was reminiscent of the of the boards at the Joe Louis Arena.  With 7 minutes left in the game, Mike scored his third goal to give the Reds a little breathing room.  .Tom "Butt Head" Morgan added a late goal to give the Reds a 7-4 winJeff would have had a 4-4 tie if his big brother Mike didn't abuse him with a Hat Trick.  Greg DeGuest had an unassisted Klinger Krash when he used the boards to stop his speeding body.
We had 7 guys from this 1998 San Jose team playing. There is a picture of 4 of them above. Fred made a

quick exit before Greg Z could take his picture.  Tommy Z and the Czar were in the other locker room.  Things are looking up as we had 2 lines plus 2 last week 3 full lines this week even with a Blackhawk game on TV.

1998 Team San Jose

Nineteen years ago, we had no problem getting 36 Duffers to get on a plane to skate in the San Jose Shark Tank. Bob Friedlander gave me some DVDs of our game there.  I have given a few of them to several guys who were on the trip.  Last Night, I gave Tommy Z a copy in the Wags locker room after he scored a beautiful wrap around goal.  He said that it was like Duffer's hockey where all the defenders play the pass because they know he wont' shoot.  He had no choice, so he fired the puck into the top shelf on the glove side.

I have several more DVDs just for the asking.  No charge!

Our favorite Canadians were there to greet us with green hats. We picked my son Ken in Cleveland.  He tried to skate, but his knees said NO! He had both knees replaces last November and he looks like the young gun Ken!
