We had a Wild 7-7 Tie!

Romeoville, IL December 15, 2017  Attendance: 25
We had a nice turnout after having 3 weeks off. Each team had 2 lines plus.  The Reds pounced on the Whites with 5 unanswered goals.  Geno, the one eye wonder scored the first goal early in the game.  Tom T"O" O'Connor scored when  Thomas "t&a dropped a pass to him and he beat the Bear for a 2-0 lead.  T&A gave the Reds a 3 goal lead with  a slap shot from the point that went off the leg of Tommy Z. TO got an assist on that goal. Birdman Dan made it 4-0 shortly after that with a greasy rebound goal.  T&A started the second period with a break away goal when he looked like he was shot out of a cannon.  Tom went straight to the bench and sucked oxygen until his next shift.  It looked like the game was

over, but the Whites spoiled Eddie's shutout when speedy SOD, Matt "Ball Peen Hammer" Hammerquest  scored a goal that started a huge momentum shift.  The Mazarella Joes teamed up to make it 5-2.  GI Joe set up his son Olgie for a Birthday Goal, then The Anvil was faced with a 3 on 0 rush, but it looked like he foiled it when he left the net and beat all 3 guys to the puck.  All he had to do was flip it out of the zone and those 3 guys would have to clear the zone, but his clearing pass went right to V-Man who scored an easy open net goal.  Now the Reds were down to that dreaded 2 goal lead.  The Bear continued to stop every shot while his team continued to assault the Anvil as his pre-game fuel was wearing off. Tommy Z set up Birthday Joe to make it 5-4. V-Man scored again in the third period to tie the game.  Speedy Matt gave the Whites a 6-5 lead when he came in on The Anvil and had a misfired pass go in the net behind Eddie.  The Reds finally woke up from their slumber when O'Connor tied it late in the 3rd period. Tommy Z got tired of making passes that got fumbled, so he surprised the Anvil with a rare shot that gave the Whites a 7-6 lead.  As the speaker blared "One Minute to play in the game", it looked like the Whites were going to win a game that they trailed by 5 goals, but Geno Cromwell beat the Bear with 58 seconds left in the game to give the Reds a thrilling 7-7 tie!

Memorable moments:

Guest Greg beat Crash Nance  5-2 in the tumble contest.

Terry and V-Man were key contributors to the 5 goal comback.

Madison Road Trip January 26-28

We don't have enough skaters to play a Duffer game, so we will just do a Badger game week end.  They are fun to watch.  Two Aurora kids Sean Dhooghy and his brother Jason are freshmen. Sean played with Donny in the USA development program.  He is 5'3" and tips the scale at 139. His big brother Jason is 5 inches taller and 2 pounds heavier. The Badger Women are home that weekend too.  We have 5 guys that  need a room for Friday and Saturday.  We have 13 guys that need Tickets to Friday and Saturday men's games. We have 13 guys that need tickets to the Saturday Women's game and 6 that will be staying for the Sunday Women's game.

We had a Super Moon on December 3rd. (That happens when the moon is at perigee) At perigee — its closest approach — the moon comes as close as 225,623 miles. At apogee — the farthest away it gets — the moon is 252,088 miles

Next month, we will have 2 super moons.  The first one will occur on January 1st This full moon comes only 4.5 hours after the moon reaches lunar perigee.  The second one will occur on January 31st. That will also be a Blue Moon (the second of two full moons to fall in one calendar month.)

We had a nice turnout after the game to discuss the events.

Tom was able to remember all 14 goal scorers.

Brian bought 3 orders of fried pickles and bribed the kitchen help to stay overtime.  Thank You Brian.

Beak reminded the waitress to give us the Duffer 20% discount that he negotiated with Tony the Manager.

This cartoon reminds me of when I was singing Christmas Carols in 8th grade. Here is a paragraph from my Memories page. "I had my first taste of Blackberry Brandy when I was an 8th grader singing Christmas Carols. I was an Altar Boy and we made a stop at Alderman Tom Keane's house. It was a cold night, so he gave each one of us a shot of Blackberry Brandy to warm us up. He later did a little time in the "Big House" for dipping in the City till. Tom Keene's wife, Adeline, took over his City Council seat and tried to woo the Latino Vote by announcing her support for teaching Latin in schools." He was born on May 20, 1935.  My son Dan was born on his birthday in 1970.

We shared a lot of Muzzy pictures in the last Newsletter.

This was 1997 when we brought up Robby Granato to give the Bombers 2 Illinois ringers.  We filled most of the coach seats and avoided a fun tax.  This is the year that Muzzy shocked Hayward church goers when he came out of the church and boarded the bus with toilet paper streaming out of his pants. Read More....
