5 Goal Lead Vanishes!

Romeoville, IL February 23, 2018  Attendance: 24
The Whites  came out flying with  goals  by Greg "Z-Man" Zerkis, Viorel "V-Man"  Tamasi and  Ken "Commander" Kroll. Ken got a nice assist from Dylan Nance. Only Monet Mike Lopatka was  able to slip one past the Bear in the first period. The Red nightmare continued in the second period as the Whites blasted 5 more pucks past the Anvil.  Z-Man and V-Man  picked up their 2nd goals while Crash Nance, Bill By the Way and Grandpa Ken added solo goals. Brian the Steward and Monet Mike were

Beak with his son and grandson.

the only Reds that were able to get a shot past Bill The Bear Barron. Beak unleashed Nick "DeJesus" Hawrysio when thee Reds were down 3 goals, Nick tried his best to get the Reds back in the game, but the Bear made one spectacular save after another as his team increased the lead to 5. It looked like the game was over with the 8-3 score when Beak lined up for the faceoff to start the 3rd period, he stated, "You know a 5 goal lead is the worst lead in hockey!"  Everybody laughed as his great granddaughter Carmela dropped the puck to start the final stanza. Rusty Tom "Butt Head" Morgan scored his first goal since he scored in the Joe Louis Arena 2 years ago. That sounds like Pat Foley when he throws water on Blackhawk goals, he digs up negative stats for the poor guy and says, "That is his first goal since November 2nd 2002." Tom's goal made it 8-4 and nobody was worried on the White team and nobody was hopeful on the Red bench, but then Monet Mike scored and picked up his hat trick.  8-5, no problem, but when Joe "Ogie" Mazzarella scored and made it 8-6, Terry started doing a play by play on the bench with his best imitation of Al Michaels. He was hoping that he would not have to say Michaels famous line, "Do you believe in miracles?" Then it got sweaty when Bill "Maestro" Conti scored to make it a one goal game! The Whites started to play "Not to lose Hockey" Like the prevent defense in football, it just prevents you from winning.  With 4 minutes left to play, Tom "T&A" Ambrosia got a nice pass from Monet Mike and he "tattooed" it past the Bear to tie the game. The 5 goal lead vanished!  The Maestro scored his second goal a minute later to get the game winner. Monet Mike scored in the final minute to pick up his 7th point. Final Score Reds 10, Whites 8.
Memorable Moments:  We had Stump there to keep an accurate score! We had a Pizza Party to celebrate The Czar and Beak's birthdays, thanks to Commander Ken. Rob Z brought pretzels. Brian gave Eddie a bottle of

Crown! Monet Mike & Terry brought us the beer. Fred "Fruitcake" Bobka came back .
Beak and Brian still have Perfect attendance at the rink and at the bar.

September 1; Muzzy passed away. He gave us more laughs than any other Duffer.

He was born on May 20, 1935.  My son Dan was born on his birthday in 1970.

We shared a lot of Muzzy pictures in the last Newsletter.

This was 1997 when we brought up Robby Granato to give the Bombers 2 Illinois ringers.  We filled most of the coach seats and avoided a fun tax.  This is the year that Muzzy shocked Hayward church goers when he came out of the church and boarded the bus with toilet paper streaming out of his pants. Read More....
