6 years ago, when Ryan Dzingel just turned 20 years old, He skated with us when we went to Columbus. Ryan is now 26 years old and he scored his 22nd and 23rd goals on the last day of the season.  That tied him for the most goals for the Ottawa Senators.  Click on the pictures below to watch the videos of his goals.

OTT@BOS: Dzingel dances by Khudobin for second goal and 23rd of the season.

I just wish that Ryan Dzingel's grandpa Rich could be here enjoying Ryan's great success. Lung cancer took Rich away before Ryan was born. I played football with Rich at Holy Trinity High School in the late 1950s. Rich never played hockey, but I was able to persuade him into getting his sons some Franklin skates so that they could play hockey on my back yard rink. Ryan's Dad Rick went on to play hockey with the Duffers Hockey club and he skated in the San Jose Shark Tank with us. He got Ryan into hockey as a mite and the rest is history. I created a web page with My Memories of Rich Dzingel at: http://www.lopatka.net/Rich%20Dzingel/index.htm

Kevin Wellhausen Mr. Lopatka I just read this newsletter that you wrote about your friend Rich.. very moving.. I want to thank you for coming to see Baylee play at Wisconsin during her college career!! It was awesome seeing you and some of the other Duffers at those games!!

Slider Friday Yields 19 Goals!

Romeoville, IL April 6, 2018  Attendance: 21
Thanks to the Czar, we had a Slider Party after a 19 goal shoot out.  Mike ordered a crate of 100 sliders that were consumed in the locker room by 15 guys and a little girl.  We had to eat 6.25 sliders per person to empty that case. After the feast, there were hundreds of tiny onion pieces scattered throughout the locker room floor.  The Reds had 6 meaningful goals and were cruising to a comfortable win. Geno had the hat trick and Monet Mike, Perfect Brian and T&A each scored 2 goals. The Anvil was busy stopping most of the shots and keeping the Whites down 4 goals. Commander Ken was the first one to dent the net for the Whites then Bill BTW scored a pair. TZ scored after deciding to stop passing to Fruitcake Fred,

Carmela, our referee, really enjoyed Bill BTW's special garlic spread, so she only ate 3 sliders.

who kept fanning on his set ups. Jim DeGuest scored to make it a 9-5 score.  Then John "UU" Schuuman made it 9-6 when he scored and crashed into the corner. Anthony "The Bookie" scored to make it 9-7 and suddenly the Reds had 2 goal lead and that is the worst lead in hockey. Bill BTW scored to get his hat trick to make it 9-8, but #33 Big Buff, Tom O restored the 2 goal lead when he was credited with a late goal that Fruitcake tipped in for him. Tommy Z smelled blood, not John's blood, but Red blood, so he scored his second goal to make it 10-9.  The Whites pulled the Bear and added a sixth attacker. They added extreme pressure so the Anvil had to make some great saves.  When the Reds finally got it out of the zone, Monet Mike had a clean break away toward an open net.  Instead of tapping it in for a hat trick, he pushed the puck into the corner and skated back with 15 seconds left to play.  The Anvil didn't know if he should laugh or cry.  The next 15 seconds turned out to be a nail biter as the Reds pounded the Anvil with 5 great scoring chances, but the Anvil kept all of the shots out of the net until the final horn sounded. Joe "Olgi" Mazzarella was pretty proud that he had 4 assists and was a +/- 0 for the night until someone mentioned that when you have 4 assists, you should be above 0 unless you sucked on Defense.
Memorable Moments:  Brian Stewart is still perfect.

We may see this jersey soon.

1 goal from each of these guys

Ken and John each had a goal.

The Bookie is keeping his distance from the Anvil after sparking a comeback for the White team.

Thanks for the slider run Mike!

Carmela did not eat 6.25 Sliders.

This Jersey has not been used since Tony wore it in the "Joe".

Opening Day April 9, 2018

There were a lot of onion bits on the floor.

Tommy Z  had a Hat Trick on Sunday Night.

Duffer sub goalie, Ed Waghorn, was named MVP for His Win.

September 1; Muzzy passed away. He gave us more laughs than any other Duffer.

He was born on May 20, 1935.  My son Dan was born on his birthday in 1970.

We shared a lot of Muzzy pictures in the last Newsletter.

This was 1997 when we brought up Robby Granato to give the Bombers 2 Illinois ringers.  We filled most of the coach seats and avoided a fun tax.  This is the year that Muzzy shocked Hayward church goers when he came out of the church and boarded the bus with toilet paper streaming out of his pants. Read More....
