George Carlin’s Views on Aging (Larry Miller first delivered a similar version)

Do you realize that the only time in our lives when we like to get old is when we’re kids? If you’re less than 10 years old, you’re so excited about aging that you think in fractions.

‘How old are you?’ ‘I’m four and a half!’ You’re never thirty-six and a half. You’re four and a half, going on five! That’s the key.

You get into your teens, now they can’t hold you back. You jump to the next number, or even a few ahead.

‘How old are you?’ ‘I’m gonna be 16!’ You could be 13, but hey, you’re gonna be 16! And then the greatest day of your life … . You become 21. Even the words sound like a ceremony . YOU BECOME 21. YESSSS!!!

But then you turn 30. Oooohh, what happened there? Makes you sound like bad milk! He TURNED; we had to throw him out. There’s no fun now, you’re Just a sour-dumpling. What’s wrong? What’s changed?

You BECOME 21, you TURN 30, then you’re PUSHING 40. Whoa! Put on the brakes, it’s all slipping
away. Before you know it, you REACH 50 and your dreams are gone.

But wait!!! You MAKE it to 60. You didn’t think you would!

So you BECOME 21, TURN 30, PUSH 40, REACH 50 and MAKE it to 60.

You’ve built up so much speed that you HIT 70! After that it’s a day-by-day thing; you HIT Wednesday!

You get into your 80’s and every day is a complete cycle; you HIT lunch; you TURN 4:30 ; you REACH bedtime. And it doesn’t end there. Into the 90s, you start going backwards; ‘I Was JUST 92.’

Then a strange thing happens. If you make it over 100, you become a little kid again. ‘I’m 100 and a half!’

May you all make it to a healthy 100 and a half!!

We had 6 Duffers at the MNF backyard big screen party! A Big thanks toHammer, Bill BTW, Terry. Mini Wheezer, and Tom Ambrosia for coming. BBTW brought cheeses, crackers and salami. T&A brought pumpkin spread and Hammer brought a bottle. This was a high end civilized gathering of men of quality!

Co-MVP Brett and Vidas each had a goal

Grandpa Ken celebrated the birth of his 3rd grandchild with 2 goals!

Greg Z was our MVP when he brought us a case of beer.

Fred paid his dues so he is back for another season.

Mini-Wheezer was posting Facebook live updates.

Vidas and Johnny Z were all smiles after scoring goals and beers.

It was great to be back at the Kilt, we got 20% discounts on our meals. Our waitress Corra provided us with great service. We had a lot of laughs looking at the Czar's collection of Photoshop gems. You can view them by clicking on the link.

After getting a request to go back to keeping "Meaningful" scores, I searched some Duffer History and came up with a Newsletter from December 16, 2005 (Posted below) that mentioned Meaningful goals. While reading it I was reminded of my return to the ice with a new hip in that game. After reading what happened that day I have to wonder why I didn't retire after that game. Tim Smith shot me in the hip and gave me a big bruise just below the stitches that I got 5 months earlier. He hit me with a high hard one that bruised my shoulder and he was on my team. I also got shot in the balls by an opponent. If you want to see those ugly bruises, go to The webpage for that date. http://www.lopatka.net/12-16-05/index.htm

Congratulations to John Bobka who graduated from William and Mary Law school on Mother's day.

I took advantage our Holy Week break and went to Florida to visit my sister. I watched Mo, Larry and Curley hook a shark and lose him. I watched my grandson Michael catch a catfish.  We watched the Blue Angels practice at Fort Pickens and again at the Naval Air Museum. We went on a dolphin sunset cruise and saw dozens of dolphins playing near our boat.

Klinger and I went to the Vault for our weekly Duffer lunch and we met a wonderful group of ladies who were raising funds to help a family pay for the medical care for their daughter Ellie. They know how to raise funds.  The are selling 4 packs of beer to help Ellie. Read about her story here: https://www.loveforellie.com/

Stop by the Vault in Lemont and buy a 12 pack for Ellie.

September 1; Muzzy passed away. He gave us more laughs than any other Duffer.

He was born on May 20, 1935.  My son Dan was born on his birthday in 1970.

We shared a lot of Muzzy pictures in the last Newsletter.

This was 1997 when we brought up Robby Granato to give the Bombers 2 Illinois ringers.  We filled most of the coach seats and avoided a fun tax.  This is the year that Muzzy shocked Hayward church goers when he came out of the church and boarded the bus with toilet paper streaming out of his pants. Read More....
