Welcome to

Our 44th Season

My Great Grandchildren helped their Mom create this beautiful wreath. It looks like Monet Mike married an artist.

The Duffers will watch the Redwings play Boston on February 14 then we will play in the Joe Louis Arena on February 15, 2016. Total cost will be $245.00 for Bus, Redwing ticket, Tee shirt, ice rental, bus beer and snacks.  You and your roommate (s) pay the room cost.  $109 plus tax includes a free breakfast.

We have room for a few more skaters and 7 spectators on the luxury bus.

Busy Weekend in Detroit

We have 3 full lines and 4 goalies who will go either way as needed.  I have deposits from 28 of them and have promises for more. I have 43 tickets to the Redwing/Boston game, so if I cut off skaters at 35, we will have 7 tickets for spectators.  Bus leaves Yorktown on Saturday February 13 at 9:00 and returns Tuesday afternoon/evening February 16.

Four on Four Fun!

Romeoville, IL October 9, 2015  Attendance: 16

Last week I begged for a few more Duffers to get off of the couch and give us 2 or 3 lines after we had less than 2 lines and I was hurting.  My begging fell on deaf ears as we had to play 4 on 4 to get 2 lines.  I play hockey to skate for a shift then tell stories for 2 shifts as I catch my breath.  I guess the Cub playoff game kept some Cub fans home. Some Sox fans like Thor and O'Connor stayed home too.  TO told me he can't come out until the Cub BS is over.  Fred was surprised that I showed up, because he knows I love the Cubs like he loves the Sox.  I told him that I could have the best of both worlds by showing up and playing hockey with my friends and then watching the highlights at the Tilted Kilt after the game.  As it turned out, there were no Cub highlights in a 4-0 loss, so I had fun with the only pain coming from my right knee that started complaining after 2 periods. (It likes 3 lines)  Here is what I remember from our fun filled game.

Bad pick Homer !

Chris Barron, our 8 year old referee put the first off side goal on the board as he gave Hacksaw a senior discount for trying to get back on side.  The final score was Eddie and the Reds 9, Whites 4.  The Czar had 4 goals for the Reds, Mini Wheezer ended his hold out and scored 3.  Commander Ken scored one by being in the right place at the right time.  BBTW had Terry tip one past Barron. (his own goalie)  Birdman Dan scored 2 for the Whites and Terry  and Rags each tallied one each.

Memorable Moments:
.Rags scored his first Meaningful Goal.  Bill BTW answered that with a M.G. of his own.
Perfect Attendance is down to 6:
Doc, Birdman Dan, Beak, Barron, Boris, and Fruitcake.

  • I have room for a few more skaters and several spectators.  Klinger told me to leave some empty seats for Beer coolers and sleepers.  My son Ken is getting 2 new knees on November 2.

Butt Head was the first to send in a Detroit deposit and  Beavis was the first to pay in full!

I only wish Harry, Ernie and Ron could be here to enjoy the ride. Harry wrote my dad a letter of encouragement after my Dad had a stroke.

Our Duffer lunch was a lot of fun.  Papa Joe and Frank are life long Sox fans and offered no words of malice because I was nice to them when the Sox won the pennant 10 years ago.  I even cheered louder than the Sox fans at the Hollywood Casino when Scott Podsednik hit that memorable homerun. (I was playing video poker and just when that ball left the park, I got a Royal Flush!  I let out a cheer louder than any of the Sox fans that were there that day) Klinger grew up a Yankee fan and has been enjoying the homeruns.  Boris likes 1-0 games.

Mini Wheezer posted this picture of my son Dan on Facebook  when he was playing softball with Mike and his Uncle Bob.  He thought he had that Schwarber stroke.

Hacksaw, Frank, Klinger and I discovered Kyle Schwarber when we went to a Kane Cougar game right after the Cubs drafted him.  He was catching and quickly jumped on a bunt and threw a rocket to first to get the guy.  He later threw our a runner trying to steal second.  He singled in his first at bat and promptly stole second base.  His next time up. he hit a fast ball way out of the park.  Klinger looked at me and said, "This guy won't be here very long." He was right. He went to AA Tennesee then AAA Iowa before the season was over.

Ball hawks were crawling under cars on Sheffield Ave. looking for this ball that came to rest on top of the 50 foot high video board.

The Czar just did the math for all of the active Duffers and found that the Mean (Average) age was  53.3 years on October 8, 2015.  That means Rags and Berserk are now meaningful!  I don't think they should be meaningful since they skate like they are only 50.
The Mode (Most Frequent) was 45 We have Four 45 year olds.
Median (Middle) was 53 Terry and Rags are straddling the median.
