Oskrobas Have a Ball!

Romeoville, IL October 6, 2017  Attendance: 20
When we walked into the rink for our 9:00 game, the ice was empty and ready for action. We wondered why our game time had been pushed back to 9:00.  Cub fans didn't mind since it gave them a chance to watch a few more innings.  We had 3 long lost Duffers show up to add to our fun. Mini Wheezer's Uncle Bob and cousin Ben made the trip up from St Louis to help us get almost 2 lines on a night when baseball playoffs kept some Duffers on the couch.
In addition to Bob and Ben, Super Dave Sullivan showed up to be with his former "partner".  After the game during the pizza party, Ben had to warn his dad about calling a guy his partner when he is talking to new acquaintances. We were treated to many new and old Uncle Bob stories when we gathered for beer and pizza in the party room.
The Game started a little late because Uncle Bob has not put on hockey gear since our Arizona trip in 2008 so he needed to watch other guys dress so that he could remember what goes where.  Super Dave had trouble finding 2 shin guards so he ended up playing with one shin protected only by some thick puffy socks. The Red team ended up with 3 Oskrobas and Bob's Partner Dave.  (Dave was Bob's partner at Clubhouse Designs)

3 Oskrobas, Bob, Mike and Ben.

The Reds had to rotate 3 defensemen, Big Ben, Maestro Bill and Brian Fuzzy Steward.  The Reds starting of Beak, Rob Z and Birdman Dan who Dufferized guest goalie Nick in 20 seconds when Birdman blew a Duffer

flutter blast past him. After that short shift, Uncle Bob, Mini Wheezer and Super Dave took the ice. Bob must have figured that we were taking short shifts, so he took a 20 second shift. Birdman Dan victimized Goalie Nick on his second shift to give Reds an early 2 goal lead. The Anvil's son Nick decided to embarrass his Dad with a couple of show off goals that made Nick the Goalie feel better. Mini Wheezer scored a couple of goals that were set up by cousin Ben, but the Czar, Drago Joe Evans and V-Man scored to give the Whites a 5-4 lead after 2 periods. Rob Ziv was handed 2 clean breakaways early in the 3rd period by stretch passes from Cousin Ben and Fuzzy Brian. Rob scored on each chance with nice moves that froze Nick the guest goalie. The Birdman scored 2 more goals to give the Reds an 8-5 come from behind win. A

big thank you to Nick the guest goalie who was not used to Duffer shots.  He won the 2017 Men's league State

championship in May with Jeff and Monet Mike.

Only the Anvil could hoist the cup without spilling his beer.

Bob became one of the Czar's favorite targets for playing with Photoshop. Only Stump and Klinger got more attention from Rich Storm.  (His first Duffer Nick name)  Check out all of his creations.

September 1; Muzzy passed away. He gave us more laughs than any other Duffer.

He was born on May 20, 1935.  My son Dan was born on his birthday in 1970.

We shared a lot of Muzzy pictures in the last Newsletter.

This was 1997 when we brought up Robby Granato to give the Bombers 2 Illinois ringers.  We filled most of the coach seats and avoided a fun tax.  This is the year that Muzzy shocked Hayward church goers when he came out of the church and boarded the bus with toilet paper streaming out of his pants. Read More....
