Welcome to

We have 2 lines and a goalie for our Road trip to Madison on January 25-29, 2018

I need 2 more lines and a goalie to make a bus affordable.

Thanks to Casey Oskroba for sharing the great action pictures below.  We need a few more bucks to buy a Duffer page for her School Play.

Next Game is October 20, 2017

Duffer News

Friday the 13th is Lucky!

Romeoville, IL October 13, 2017  Attendance: 17
Friday the 13th caused a drop in participants.  We had to play 4 on 4 and the white team had to rotate 3 defensemen with Grandpa Ken getting a work out.  The Reds had 8 guys, so Fruitcake, Brian, Maestro Bill and Monet Mike had an easier time.  Eddie the Anvil was eager to get to the rink because he posted a 6-0 shutout when we had our last Friday the 13th in January.  This time the Reds let a 3 goal lead slip away late in the game. Eight White Goals came from Berserk 3, Grandpa Ken 2, Bookie Anthony 2 and Guest Greg tied the game with 27 seconds left in the game after he had several funny falls. The 8 Red goals came from Mini Wheezer 3, Monet Mike 2 and solo goals by

3 Oskrobas, Bob, Mike and Ben.

T&A, Brian fuzzy Stewart and Maestro Conti.  Monet Mike and Maestro Conti were defenders last January when The Anvil picked up his Friday the 13th shutout. Mini Wheezer had 3 shin guard breakaways.  When will they learn that you can't shoot a puck though him.  Grandpa Ken had a nice tip in of a shot by commander Ken. The Bookie had a wrap around tap in while the Anvil was flat on his back. Carmela and Chris did a great job with the score board and face offs. Mini Wheezer's wife was  MVP  for the White team when she delivered a cooler full of beer at game time and Monet Mike was MVP for supplying beer for the Reds. The Bookie delivered last week when Mike was in Erie Pennsylvania and the Bear delivered when Mike was in Pittsburgh. Thank You to all of our beverage suppliers, we would have a hard time playing hockey without you.

Madison Road Trip January 25-28

We have 18 guys who said that they would go on the trip, however 3 of those guys will drive in to Madison

from Canada, so bus rider numbers are not what we need to make it affordable.  If we don't pick up another 10 guys, we will do a car pool/van trip like we did in 2015 when we played in the Joe Louis Arena. Tony G is busier than a one armed wallpaper hanger, so he told me that he will have Jayne call me to arrange ice for 2 Duffer games, rooms and tickets to Badger/Penn State games on Friday and Saturday. University of Wisconsin rules prevent us from playing on their ice on game days, so we would have to play on Thursday when we get there.  We

would have to play our second game on a nearby rink on Friday or Saturday.

Grandpa Ken had a pair of goals.

Memorable Moments:

  • Grandpa Ken crashed into Fred "Fruitcake" Bobka then helped him up.
  • Bill "The Bear" Barron raced out to the Blue Line to beat Mini Wheezer to the puck. He just missed getting the puck, but Mike and the puck went sliding to the net where the puck hit the left post and gave Mike an easy tap that he executed from his belly.

Friday the 13th Duffer History

Romeoville, IL January 13, 2017  Attendance: 24 (Amazing)
http://www.lopatka.net/2017-01-27/index.html
We had a big group that showed up at the Kilt to congratulate The Anvil!  Bill "Maestro" Conti, wearing red number 13, went on to get a natural hat trick and gave Ed all he needed for the win.
Eddie put a bounty on his son Nick, telling Jeff to sober him up with a hit or two.  Nick DeJesus had more spills than Terry.  He even went down when Beak bumped into him. He learned a valuable lesson, "Don't Drink and Play Hockey".  Terry was reminded of a tumble that he took in the post game handshake line on February the 13 in 2013.  Tommy Z put a bounty on him and Hacksaw gave him a friendly push that sent him down to the ice.  TZ bought Boris a beer at Wild Wings.  Reds 6 and Whites 0

Romeoville, IL September 13, 2013 Attendance: 22 http://www.lopatka.net/2013-09-20/index.html
Miguel had his goalie pads on the wrong legs, so he had a problem going down.
Robs goalie Pads were in his wife's car, many miles away, but we had him covered
The Maestro had bad luck wearing jersey number 13
Beak shot himself in the foot, but that was good luck because the puck went into the net for a goal.
The whole game was a memorable event that had teenagers playing with their dads, a guy in his twenties playing with his grandfather.  We had goals scored by sons, grandsons, dads and granddads. Three guys in their 70s scored goals!  This was Duffers Hockey at it's finest.
This night lived up to the 4 page spread in the Plainfield Enterprise by Robin Ambrosia.   http://www.lopatka.net//2013-Enterprise/2013-Enterprise.htm    We lived up to that 11 year old article "Puckish fun" By Lauren B. Kraft, where she wrote "For Duffers Hockey Team, the main goal is having a blast"  Read the article here: The cover of the Sun

Hacksaw exchanged insults with Terry, then sent him tumbling to the ice during our friendly hand shake. Hacksaw collected his bounty when Tommy Z sent a beer over to him at Wild Wings.
Geno slammed T&A with a hard body check. Thor told T&A , "He took you down with one eye!"

Romeoville, IL April 13, 2012 Attendance: 21
http://www.lopatka.net/2012-04-20/index.html
Friday The 13th was unlucky for the Anvil! 82 year old goalie (Papa Joe) lost site of the puck and disallowed a goal that was tapped in my the original Bookie.

Romeoville, IL 08/13/2010 Attendance 16 http://www.lopatka.net/2010-08-20/index.htm
T&A tripped Bill BTW and made him bleed. Beak was supposed to call Bill every time he got up to pee that night, to make sure he didn't bleed to death, but Beak slept straight through the night and woke up just in time to go to the Jimmy Buffett Concert party. Te Duffers that went to the concert, got to see Patrick Kane bring out the Stanley Cup.

Romeoville, IL 11/13/09    Attendance 22   http://www.lopatka.net/09-11-20/index.htm
A clearing pass was deflected up and  hit Boris the face and then deflected off his visor. He went to the locker room, returned with ice and sat for a while, spitting blood as his face continued to swell. He gathered his helmet, gloves and stick and retired to the locker room.

3/13/09 Brian has bad luck 15 times

2/13/09 Eddie wins 8-3 with a 1-1 Meaningful tie.
6/13/08 Eddie and Brian go Fishing.  We have 4 goalies and 5 sets of goalie pads.  Whites beat Jason 7-6
7/13/07 Tweedy tops the Anvil, 9-4.  4/13/07 No Ice
10/13/06 Eddie stops a ton of Granato shots, but falls to the Brain. Hat Trick for Brinks
1/13/06 The Anvil had another great game, only to lose when his son banks one in off of his back.
5/13/05 Geno scores with 7 seconds left in the game to give the Kid from Peoria a tie against Brian.
8/13/04 Anvil loses a shut out late, then loses the game to Brian as Beak got the game winner.
2/13/04 Three Oskroba goals (2 by Uncle Bob) give Tweedy a win over Brian BBTW becomes BBB for a while.
12/13/02 Beak scored an incest goal on his son Tweedy that was assisted by Klinger.  Brian Wins. Stump Scores. Tech Buzz is on Vacation.  (I'm glad we don't have that any more)
9/13/02 Cammi sets up her Dad and Beak, then scores another to give Brian a 6-2 win.

Dan had a Hat Trick and 2 assists in the Men's league

He was born on May 20, 1935.  My son Dan was born on his birthday in 1970.

We shared a lot of Muzzy pictures in the last Newsletter.

This was 1997 when we brought up Robby Granato to give the Bombers 2 Illinois ringers.  We filled most of the coach seats and avoided a fun tax.  This is the year that Muzzy shocked Hayward church goers when he came out of the church and boarded the bus with toilet paper streaming out of his pants. Read More....
