Polish Power Rules!

Romeoville, IL December 22, 2017  Attendance: 24
We had a nice turnout again. Each team had 2 lines plus. Johnny  "Cupcake" Bobka came home from Law school to find a new Duffer Jersey and Hockey bag with #19 assigned to  him. Bill By the Way started the scoring when he was set up by  Crash Terry and his son Dylan on their first shift.  John wasted no time in putting his new #19 to work when he scored a goal that was assisted by 2 Lopatkas.  Beak started the play with a no look back hand pass off of the boards right to his grandson Monet Mike who raced into the zone and set up Cupcake's goal with a nice pass. Tommy Z got that goal back when he fired a shot past Matt the Hammer who was filling in for the Anvil. We now had 1 goal and 2 assists by 3 Polish Duffers. That theme continued as Monet Mike Lopatka scored 2 more goals to give the Reds a 4-1 lead. Johnny Bobka scored again to increase the Red lead to 5-1. Red players stifled their glee when they were reminded that they blew a 5-0 lead last week. Duffer History was about to

John and his Dad had fun.

repeat as Anthony "Double A" Antonini, Rob "The Ziv" Zivalich and Tommy Z scored to knot the score at 5-5.  Early in the second period, Dylan Nance did his best imitation of a Beak grandson as he put the puck on Beak's stick in the slot.  Beak fired a low backhander that Barron "The Bear" Williams stopped with a great pad save. Dylan set Beak up again, but this time Beak fired a wrist shot that hit the Bear in the Duffer Bear. Dylan worked a puck free in the corner and he sailed a soft saucer pass to Beak that he one timed past the Bear into the top shelf to break the tie. Beak now only a fight away from getting a Gordie Howe Hat trick, but nobody wanted to "Dance" with the Beak, because they saw what happened to Mini Wheezer in the Joe Louis Arena when he dropped the gloves and gave Beak a Gordie Howe Hat trick in the "Joe"! Johnny Bobka scored again to get his Hat Trick.  Bill BTW picked up his second goal to put the Reds up 8-5.  Monet Mike scored to get his Hat and then added 1 more to put the Reds up 10-5.  Geno scored a one eyed goal to make the final 10-6. Then it happened, Fred "Fruitcake" Bobka hit the crossbar with a shot that would have given the Reds 100 goals when the Bobka Factor kicked in.  (Ten squared = one hundred)

Memorable moments:

  • 10 goals were scored by Polish Duffers
  • Crash Nance beat Guest Greg 5-2 in the tumble contest.

Beak and his grandson scored 5 goals and his great granddaughter helped her Dad win 10 faceoffs.

Madison Road Trip January 26-28

We don't have enough skaters to play a Duffer game, so we will just do a Badger game week end.  They are fun to watch.  Two Aurora kids Sean Dhooghy and his brother Jason are freshmen. Sean played with Donny in the USA development program.  He is 5'3" and tips the scale at 139. His big brother Jason is 5 inches taller and 2 pounds heavier. The Badger Women are home that weekend too.  We have 5 guys that  need a room for Friday and Saturday.  We have 15 guys that need Tickets to Friday and Saturday men's games. We have 14 guys that need tickets to the Saturday Women's game and 7 that will be staying for the Sunday Women's game.

3 Polish Goals from John.

5 Polish Goals from Beak and his grandson Mike.

We had 10 Duffers for our annual Duffer Lunch at the Kilt.

January will have 2 Super Moons.  One will occur on New Year's Day. The second one will happen on January 31st. That will be a Blue Moon

September 1; Muzzy passed away. He gave us more laughs than any other Duffer.

He was born on May 20, 1935.  My son Dan was born on his birthday in 1970.

We shared a lot of Muzzy pictures in the last Newsletter.

This was 1997 when we brought up Robby Granato to give the Bombers 2 Illinois ringers.  We filled most of the coach seats and avoided a fun tax.  This is the year that Muzzy shocked Hayward church goers when he came out of the church and boarded the bus with toilet paper streaming out of his pants. Read More....
