Duffer News

Italian Power Rules!

Romeoville, IL December 27, 2017  Attendance: Sad
Traffic was light and we were early because the expected delays never occurred.  We had more fans than players. Anthony had his wife and kids cheering him on and the Ambrosias had a big group that included T&A's grandson.
We were going to take a "Duffer Snow Team" picture of the 17 guys who show up when it snows.
Last week, we had a plethora of Polish goals. This week, the Italians dominated the nonexistent score sheet. T&A Ambrosia and Maestro Conti each had Hat tricks.  Beak had 2 assists on Bill's goals. Guest Greg Duba had 2 goals and 3 crashes and t&a JR had one to give the Reds and guest goalie Sam a 9-6 win.
Tumbling Terry had a hat trick for the Whites with assists from his son Dylan and Grandpa Ken. Terry had several crashes, but one in the corner deserves a special award. Commander Ken had 2 very strange goals to open the 2nd period that got the Whites back in the game. His first one was a gift from Goalie

Just one of our many fans.

Sam who came out of the net and hit the top of the puck with his clearing attempt.  The puck went right to Commander Ken who flipped it into the empty net.  His second goal came seconds later when Ken flipped a slow back-hander from the center line. Goalie Sam tried to onetime the puck to his defender Brian Stewart, but   Sam's stick went right over the puck this time and the puck ambled slowly over the goal line and never got to the back of the net. Commander was credited with a 100 foot goal. Thanks to Goalie Sam for coming out on short notice.  The Anvil got the snow plowing call just a few hours before game time. Thanks to Brian and Terry for bringing the beer.
The Kilt closed the kitchen early again and shut us out 2 weeks in a row.  We were welcomed with hugs and beers by Sammie the bartender at Wild Wings. We may have to go back there.  She said that they still have the late night special of a free beer.  My meal was excellent and the service was up to everyone's standards except Terry.  (He wants silverware with his beer) He did buy the first round, so we love him. (We need Boris)

Memorable Moments

  • Barron "The Bear" Williams made many saves, but had the deck stacked against him. The final score was 9-6.

  • 7 goals were scored by Italian Duffers
  • Crash Nance beat Guest Greg 3-2 in the

tumble contest and 3-2 in goals.

These are the Kids that made Ken a Grandpa .

Madison Road Trip January 26-28

We don't have enough skaters to play a Duffer game, so we will just do a Badger game week end.  They are fun to watch.  Two Aurora kids Sean Dhooghy and his brother Jason are freshmen. Sean played with Donny in the USA development program.  He is 5'3" and tips the scale at 139. His big brother Jason is 5 inches taller and 2 pounds heavier. The Badger Women are home that weekend too.  We have 5 guys that  need a room for Friday and Saturday.  We have 13 guys that need Tickets to Friday and Saturday men's games. We have 13 guys that need tickets to the Saturday Women's game and 6 that will be staying for the Sunday Women's game.

Anthony had this cutie waving to him every time he skated by.

Anthony's Son and wife helped our attendance.

The Ambrosias filled the stands with fans.

September 1; Muzzy passed away. He gave us more laughs than any other Duffer.

He was born on May 20, 1935.  My son Dan was born on his birthday in 1970.

We shared a lot of Muzzy pictures in the last Newsletter.

This was 1997 when we brought up Robby Granato to give the Bombers 2 Illinois ringers.  We filled most of the coach seats and avoided a fun tax.  This is the year that Muzzy shocked Hayward church goers when he came out of the church and boarded the bus with toilet paper streaming out of his pants. Read More....
