August 20, 2015. Crooked Stix Vs. Wags Repeating as summer league champs looked doubtful with only 6 forwards and 3 defensemen at game time. Last year, Roadrunner Jay was out with a broken wing. This year he was suffering from a leg disorder. Snuffy Snick, Shamrock O'Niel and Mano Mano were MIA. (They accounted for 7 goals in the 13-8 win over the Ice Age last summer. We also had a few more studs go back to school and one overslept. Ed "The Wall" Waghorn teamed up with his son John "The Fence" Waghorn and veteran defensemen Dan "The Man" Lopatka and Tony "The Tiger" Letto to hold the Crooked Stix to 5 goals. scored early, but Ryan "Mustang" Smith took a pass from Steve "G-Man" Gaul and tied the score with 3:56 left in the period. The Crooked Stix quickly answered that goal with 2 goals in 12 seconds that gave them a 3-1 lead going into the second period. Those quick goals got the Wags attention. Dan "The Man" Lopatka took a pass from Zack "Baby Bara"Kuta and scored a power play just 2 minutes into the 2nd stanza. Tony "The Tiger" Letto picked up the second assist. That sparked the Wags and shook the Crooked goalie and Wags went on to score 5 unanswered goals in the next 20 minutes to take a commanding 6-3 lead. Killer Kyle Sandowski tied the game on a pass from Mustang Smith. Two and a half minutes later, Tiger Letto set up "G-Man" Gaul to give Wags a 4-3 lead. Eleven seconds later, Mustang Smith gave us a 2 goal lead with an unassisted goal that was really assisted by Matt "Swatter" Swacek, but the referee was negligent. Halfway into the 3rd period, Kevin "Smooth as" Glass passed to late arriving Jack Iondoli at the point and he blew a slap shot past the crooked goalie to give Wags a comfortable 6-3 lead with 7:29 left to play. That comfortable feeling lasted just 20 seconds when the Crooked Stix finally solved Ed the Wall with a goal that cut the lead to 2. Ed had kicked out every shot in the last period and a half. That dreaded 2 goal lead lasted until there was 2:01 left to play and Myles Nevaiker scored an unassisted goal. The Crooked Goalie went to the
bench and they added a sixth attacker that gave Ed a busy 2 minutes, but we held on for a thrilling win. We missed our open net specialist, Tom "t&a" Ambrosia who went away to college in Indiana. The Crooked goalie was credited with 32 saves and Ed "The
